Terry is right, but he should have stated that the deduction is 70% of that.

    proper way to say thanks

I agree with Sixwheeler. Don't flash brights. I have flashed my brights during the day but never at night.

    exhaust Fumes in sleepers?

You could be drawing in fumes from other trucks around you. Especially horizontally exhausted trucks. Get yourself a carbon monoxide detector just to be safe.

    12'6'" bridges

I have driven trucks with convex mirrors mounted on the top bracket and aimed upward. I was told this enabled the driver to monitor exhaust from stacks for potential problems. The biggest problem was from overhead freeway lights reflecting into the cab. I remedied that by aiming the mirror...

driving at night in the rain

I am also a Rain-X fan. It must be applied to clean warm glass for best results. I use a Rain-X additive mixed with regular windshield washer. My only complaint is that it's a dust magnet in the summmer.

Letzrock, what a wonderful analogy. Hope nobody is offended. I think even Robertson Davies would appreciate it.

    How do I say thanx?

WARNING: Do not fall victim to blinker fluid theft. Keep your hood latched and locked. Be aware of suspecious activity in and around truck stops, i.e. men with turkey basters and small pails and its way past Thanksgiving Day. I saw a man at the bottom of an exit ramp with hand painted sign...

    How do I say thanx?

New cars still come with turn signals as standard equipment. The problem is the world wide shortage of blinker fluid. The United States imports more than 90% of its blinker fluid and is the largest user of blinker fluid in the world. China is a close second due to their growing economy. Many...

    What Van For You?

The low roof Sprinter has an inside height of 64" and is not available in the 158" model. The high roof has an inside height of 73" and comes in 140" and 158" wheelbases. This could change with 2007 model.

    Retrofitting Vans and Sprinters

I'mentally building my next van. But it can be hard to sell an idea to someone. Take your ideas and ask other owners what they want in an expedite van. Then build it. Stay in the expediting so you can work while showcasing your product. If you can make a quality conversion at a decent price...

The Impact Of The Big Three On Me

The corner Standard station is now owned by British Petroleum. They have no tow truck because they have no garage or mechanic. You can buy a slurpee and some Excederine though. A somewhat dated but still poignant view of GM and the UAW as seen through the eyes of an assembly line worker is...

    cargo van

My rear tires bear most of the weight when loaded. They also wear more evenly. My experience with chevys is that front tires tend to scallop along the edges at about 100,000 mi. or so. I have run nothing but Bridgestones and if I can safely get 115,000 miles I'm happy. The only tire failure...

    newbies beware...

Sam, sorry about your problems with a fleet owner. If you enjoy expediting and don't mind doing the van thing, then I suggest you buy a new or good used van. If after 6 months or so things don't work out you can always sell the van at a minimal loss. A white 1 ton used van is easy to sell...

    cargo van

I should add that my tire dealer is an independent shop. The owner knows how the van is used. He is a very honest and decent person. He once sold me two slightly used (8000 miles) tires off a truck that went to larger tires and wheels. I should have bought all four but only needed two...

    cargo van

The van came from the factory with the alignment problem. At 60,000 my tire dealer re-aligned the front end and put new tires on the rear and the rear tires up front. Front tires now have 112,000 and show even wear. I will be buying new rear tires soon and moving the present rear tires to the...

    What Van For You?

I'm on my 2nd Chevrolet long wheelbase gasser. I've been very satisfied with both. In the past buying a van was easier. Ford or Chevy? Gas or diesel? Now there is the Sprinter and Areocell bodies. The possibility of the Feds requiring log books for vans could influence one's choice...

    cargo van

I sold my 1998 chev 3500 1 1/2 years ago. It had 340,000 mi. I re- placed the fuel pump once at about 185,000. The altenator and water pump were still original. Rear seals leaked at about 250,000 which forced me to replace original rear brake shoes. Changed tranny fluid and filter twice...
