    Severe wx along I-75

Just got a tweet from someone driving on I-75 (didn't say where but apparently in either KY or TN) saying it was hailing so hard, they couldn't hold a conversation in the car. A few minutes later, he tweeted that I-75 was covered in hail like it was snow.

This is amazing. Go Wisconsin. U decide.

You mean they don't? I thought the commies already had it.

    October Locations

Little Rock, enjoying the awesome salad bar here, not getting even a hint of a bid, and trying to keep my phone on 4G. It keeps switching back to 1G.

    Too much information

Overheard from the too-loud conversation among truck stop waitresses: "I want a baby but I don't want to do what it takes to get one," she said, slight distaste in her voice. Something went wrong in somebody's past.

    Carriers and privacy

If a van running more for the competition bothers you, the answer is to use it more yourself. Get on the phone and hustle up some good freight for you to put on it. If your freight's on it, it won't be available for the other guys. It's like a team trying to make the playoffs, trying to catch...

    Carriers and privacy

That crossed my mind, but in this case, what's being requested is names of competitors--with which of our competitors are you doing business? And they're asking contractors, not employees.

    Carriers and privacy

What if it doesn't? What if the signs are magnetic, or what if there are no signs at all? Either way, I don't see how it's any of their business. If you're a carpenter or a plumber, does your customer interrogate you as to whether you did any work for the Smiths over on Maple Street?

    Carriers and privacy

What does everyone think about a carrier that has no regard for your privacy, that wants increasing amounts of information? One of my companies is apparently building a database of other carriers, by name, that each unit runs for. I'm not so sure that's their business.

    Hire the KID NOW!

The Bible has something to say about even this, saying that a hireling caretaker doesn't have the same love that a parent does. If a mother and child are walking in the woods and a bear jumps out at them, the mother is likely to do anything, whatever it takes to defend her child. A hireling may...

    Hire the KID NOW!

If it's possible, it would be MORE true. Ever hear the routine by comic Emo Phillips, in which he told of borrowing the car one night and wrecking it? He says his father gave him a backhanded apology by saying, "Son, I'm sorry. I apologize. I thought you were responsible enough to use the...

    Hire the KID NOW!

apparently not. She was home when he got there. I disagree with LOS a lot, but he's certainly right this time: children that age belong at home with mom, not being raised by strangers, and especially not the state. As Dr. Laura would point out, better to be poor, raising your own child...

Oak Park, IL to ban eating, drinking behind the wheel?

It would be akin to being bound hand-and-foot. It would involve being told when to eat, when to sleep, ven ze arbeit macht frei, "shleep now, go to verk now," but I suppose we'd be safe. It'd be like the movie Demolition Man, in which everything bad for them is illegal, including red meat, salt...

Leaping' silver carp caught in North Dakota

Bounties are/ were responsible for the near extinction of several species. They nearly killed off cougar and wolves, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were responsible for the decline if the American black bear (which is making quite a comeback now--tens of thousands of them even in Wisconsin...

Oak Park, IL to ban eating, drinking behind the wheel?

The proposal is in an early stage. They say the next time the issue will be revisited would be early next year. Pretty soon, the only way anyone will be able to drive is with hands at 10 and 2, no talking even with passengers, and no changing the radio station unless you bring the car to a stop...

How do you like the Bionic?

I'm kind of surprised. I thought the Bionic was supposed to be all that and the proverbial bag. I just read a review last night cnrt, iirc, that said it wasn't all that impressive. I was ready to go out and get one; I've got to get away from tmo.

Leaping' silver carp caught in North Dakota

Establish a bounty; some amount for every one of these presented to the DNR. Some would become professional fishermen just to catch them for the bounty, so they'd have jobs. Use the carp to feed the poor. Would it cost something? Sure, but you're getting something in return. Bounties have been...

    Occupy Wall Street?

Being laid off is being treated like property? So if being laid off is being treated like property, and treating someone like property is wrong, then no one could ever be laid off, is that what you're saying? How does that not enslave the business owner? How does that not violate one's right...
