    Check Out This Truck

Spotted this truck at TA in Ontario today when we went there for showers and then left to set up for tomorrow's pick up. The truck was buttoned up so I was unable to talk to the driver(s). The graphics and chrome on this SST-100 are the nicest I've seen on one of those "Jeff Jones specials."

    About copilot Truck-route GPS

It might be fun and informative to readers if some of us got togther with our current versions of our mapping software and ran a real-world test through them......humm.......I sense an ExpeditersOnline and/or Expedite NOW article rising out of this. Hummmmmm. Yep. This is a good idea. It's...

    Flying J Comdata/Visa Etc

swiftyexp, Thank you for sharing your truck stop management background with us. I hope you share a lot more of what you know. We use truck stops all the time for fuel and showers, at least, and sometimes more. I would very much like to learn more about the truck stop business as truck stop...

Correction: It is about 60 miles from the TA to the campground, not 40. Forgive the typo.

    Where did it go???

Until I saw this thread, I did not realize the Trucker's Poem thread had been removed. For the record, all I did was post a simple little poem that had nothin to do with any Open Forum member or industry issue. Others turned the thread into something different. Do I dare repost the poem?

    About copilot Truck-route GPS

We use CoPilot Truck laptop version and Delorme Street Atlas USA. Both will miss an address every now and then. CoPilot seems to get it right more often. For example, in Ontario, CA, the road by the TA truck stop is Millikan Ave. CoPilot shows it is a through street going north to Foothill...

MEMORIAL WEEKEND !! WHERE ARE YOU ??

Finding ourselves in LA over the long weekend (dispatched to pick up on Tuesday) was a new experience. We have been in and out of LA many times. Laying over here, we had no idea what to do or see because we have always been dispatched out of LA quickly. While talking on the phone with Jack...

    Truck Financing

We have a business account and a new vehicle loan with a credit union. They required at least 20% down on the truck, a written business plan, and a good credit rating. In return, they offered a fixed interest rate that no dealer, owner, bank, or other type of lending institution was able to...

    single wheel VS Dually drives

They are called super-singles or wide-base single tires. We did check them out and decided to go with traditional duals. Super-singles are most often seen on trucks where the weight savings of the super-single setup can translate directly into additional freight on board; such as tankers where...

    Weekend Freight (or lack thereof)

One additional thought about FedEx Custom Critical weekend freight disappearing to a sister company. What sister company would that be? FedEx Surface Expedite Network uses resources from both FedEx Custom Critical and FedEx Freight, but FedEx Freight trucks do not run on weekends. I don't think...

    TRANSFERING TRUCKS

An old-timer team we once met told us they were getting ready to go home to take everything out of their truck and move back into it again. They had been running in that truck for years and it was packed full of stuff, some of which they have forgotten they even had. To keep that from happening...

    Weekend Freight (or lack thereof)

Regarding the effect of FedEx's "LTL" or the "freight network" mentioned here by others, click this link for more information. http://www.expeditersonline.com/artman/publish/article_005543.html From the executives quoted in the article and from personal experience at loading docks and actual...

    Rain Gear

We carry Dutch Harbor rain gear in the truck. The reflective tape and bright yellow color help people notice you when you are out in the rain and dark. At truck stops in the rain, these jackets get noticed by people peering into the rain through streaky windshield wipers. Same holds true on the...

    slooooooooow

Short runs. Long runs. It does not matter. What matters is the money you make, per day and per mile. After some time off at home (the freight took us close and we were ready for a break), we went into service Monday and soon received a load offer that got us running on Tuesday. Pick up...

    >...you either adapt or you don't. That sums it up perfectly. Those who adapt to the always-changing industry conditions succeed. Those who don't fail. Success is not about the industry adapting to you. It is about you adapting to the industry.

Purchasing a camera system for my truck

Here are some photos. The first shows the monitor built into the dash. Volvo had enough blanks for switches to accomplish this. I moved active switches to blank areas, freeing up enough room to cut a hole in the dash plastic and mount the monitor in it. Also shown is the camera dome on the...

Purchasing a camera system for my truck

We purchased our 8-camera system from TS2. http://ts2net.com/prodmobile.html I am reluctant to provide advice about camera types because technology changes so fast and I have not kept up. It might be best to contact these folks and Safety Vision with your color-camera and night-vision...
