But, But, But, I did help the Auto Recycler, a couple of mechanics and the NAPA store when I installed all the new parts on the front of the engine!! I just can't win with you EO guys! LOL

Murray, it's not that hard when you figure the guys switching have 2-3 pay checks still coming. Plus their escrow accounts should be paid back to the drivers.

    Say Hi to July

Back on the road again. Been home since July 3rd when my engine blew. Got a Menomonee Falls WI to Pontiac MI. Van feels great. Good oil pressure and normal temps. Gas mileage appears to be good. I think I did the right thing by replacing the engine instead of buying a new van.

    My blown engine story.

Yes, pretty much like that. I think I'll find the piston broken right below the wrist pin, allowing the connecting rod to pull out of the bottom of the piston. When I get time to pull it apart, I'll take a few pictures of the insides of the engine.

    My blown engine story.

I'm leaning towards a broken piston. The fact that it lost compression first before failing. And it still had oil pressure while it was banging and clunking. I will find out! And I've sent off an oil sample from the blown engine for testing to Amsoil. Nothing in the oil visible to the eye...

    My blown engine story.

I was pushing myself hard to get the new Transit or the GM Unicell CW. Now I'm kind of feeling ok again in the van I already have. The push to buy new was because I knew my current vans days were numbered. If Ford had had the Transit available or if Unicell hadn't told me 8-12 weeks, I'd have...

    My blown engine story.

Donor engine is in place and running better then the van has run in months. Drove it everywhere Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Starts cold, starts hot, no smoke or funny noises. Feels rock solid. Ready to go back on the road with it Tuesday morning. Got a week with no pay and some repair expenses...

    My blown engine story.

Old engine out and in my shop. Next time I'm home I'll pull the valve covers and inspect. Then I'll roll it over and drop the oil pan. I need to know what broke! I did notice already that the one exhaust manifold is nice and dark brown while the side that had the misfire is chalky and very...

    My blown engine story.

My engine problems started months ago. Was in CA and they had tremendous rains. It was like driving thru a 6" deep puddle for 50 miles. My check engine light came on, truck started running really bad. First chance I got I checked the code. All O2 sensors and their heaters were showing bad...

    My 2015 Ford Transit Experience

Actually not a Ford enthusiast, it's just that GM builds nothing in a big van. Unless you go with an after market body like Unicell. That's still on the table. Now that my Chevy van is fixed, I have time again to decide.

    My blown engine story.

The yard where I bought the engine had a hang tag showing the exact mileage of the engine and a handwritten chart showing cranking compression of each individual cylinder. Their eBay add showed pictures of the wrecked truck. That allowed me to see the area of the hit and the overall condition of...

    My 2015 Ford Transit Experience

So, my last option is to find a dealer with a Transit with Ecoboost engine and test drive that. Hope it's more like what I'm looking for. Something that cruises effortlessly down the road, (Like a GM with a V8 does), not constantly downshifting and getting good enough fuel mileage to help offset...

    My 2015 Ford Transit Experience

I really like the fuel mileage and torque on the Transit Diesel engine. But, that engine is only used in the Transit, and most likely will be only a small quantity sold. Definitely afraid of parts availability issues with that one!!!

    My 2015 Ford Transit Experience

I'm really starting to believe what you stated. I don't believe any of these new vans are speced out for long open road miles. They seem to be more geared for easy movement around the cities like a plumber or other tradesman would most likely use them.

    My blown engine story.

Got my van back today. Total cost of $400 engine and $900 to the mechanic. The labor was higher then originally agreed on because I decided that while the engine was out, let's change the P/S pump, water pump, belts, tensioners, idlers, hoses and anything else that he saw maintenance related. He...

    My blown engine story.

So, I called a taxi and paid for a ride to the nearest airport that had an Avis. My wife works for Avis and gets free rentals. Drive back to Milwaukee with a brand new Volvo car (very nice car). Spent the 4th not thinking about my problems. Saturday early morning I took my half ton Suburban and...

    My blown engine story.

Thursday July 3rd my 4.8 Chevrolet engine gave up its last breath. Murray got me a going home load from just outside Cleveland going to Warren MI. Perfect load to go home for the long weekend. Used a forklift to drag my dead van around to the front parking lot of the shipper. Walked next door to...
