new company driver thinking of buying Sprinter

My advice would be to stay on with this company as an employee for about six month. This will allow you to better understand the company, expediting and what type of van to buy. It will also give you time to save some money. Pretend you own the van you drive. Keep track of maintenance...

Pit bulls rip arms off a 74 yo veteran

If he hadn't been wearing that sleeveless, angel blue, twist silk chiffon dress the damage to his arm may have been less severe. But it did go rather nice with the open toe white pumps. Very summery!

The month of May I got 17.62 mpg. That brought my ytd average up to 16.73. My best year ever mpg-wise was 2009 with 17.07 for the year.

    Nissan Enters Expediting...

Yeah, I can live with 70-30. If we ever meet, I'll buy. I typed my reply and then added the "past 5 years" part. It does seem to me that I see more and more extended vans lately.

    Nissan Enters Expediting...

I agree that this is a niche market and a very small one. But combine it with plumbing, HAVC, construction, flooring, delivery and passenger transport where longer is usually better and I think that market is quite large. I would guess that in the last five years GM and Ford sell almost as...

    Nissan Enters Expediting...

Nice pics NV! But that van still only has 98 inches of floor cargo space and in my opinion that doesn't cut it in this industry.

    17.4x mpg on gasoline

Whoa Leo, you've got LOS syndrome. The 3.73 was standard in my 2004, 6.0 and I believe it was the standard gear ratio on all 6.0 until the 6 speed debuted with a 3.42. Regardless, mid 17's is great and maybe you could end the year in the high 16's.

Great news! It's about time the U.S. exported something to Mexico other than jobs. This should improve our trade deficit numbers.

Thinking about getting into the business, will take all the advice I can get!

JJ, if you are financially unprepared, wait until you have the money before starting out on any business venture. Again, if you are financially unprepared odds are you will get to see your very own company go belly up.

    Interesting Opportunity

I've got a gps for that. It even has it's own little "Go Home" icon. Cargo Van Independent Contractors: -Needed for expedited operation. -Dedicated Lanes-Predictable Utilization. I see some stiff in operations: "I predict a 70% chance of utilizing any one specific van at least once a week or...

When does being a Newbie cease ?

Would this include running in below zero temperatures, during the middle of the night, in rural Iowa with less than ⅛ of a tank of fuel? Welcome to the intermediate idiot years of your expedite apprenticeship. Rural Iowa? That's redundant and a waste of virtual ink.

    Bad fuel

There was a time when I would spend an extra 2-3 cents per gallon for good old 87 octane, alcohol free gasoline. The price difference between straight gas and 10% ethanol has become to great to offset the slightly higher mpg, provided you can even find non ethanol blended gasoline.
