    Older Reefers and California

We're geeting good responses from FedEx contractors. What's the word about Panther and Express-1 reefers and California?

    Older Reefers and California

I know one FDCC contractor who has upgraded but no others. Obviously he thought it was worth it. He also resides in California. Are there others out there who have upgraded or replaced their old reefers, and if so, what was the thinking that made it worth doing?

    Older Reefers and California

Our reefer dealer is giving us ball park prices of $8,000 to upgrade and $18,000 to replace our reefer. Upgrading means replacing the engine only. All other components remain the same.

Expediter Services seems to be doing that with some success.

    Older Reefers and California

So as to not go deeply off topic in the locations thread, I'm starting a new thread here. A number of reefer trucks and trailers have reached or will soon reach the age where CARB rules prohibit their operation in California. It was mentioned in the locations thread that FedEx Custom Critical...

    July locations .....

Did FedEx change its policy? I thought that if you were not Calfornia compliant you would not be TVAL flagged at all. In Tucson at the Tripple T.

    Gyms and Health Clubs

I know you're in a van. What's your sense of what parking at these places might be for a straight truck?

    July locations .....

You are a tougher man than me. Diane and I say that if we have no generator, we have no truck. If our generator crapped out totally, we'd go out of service immediately to drive to ARI in Indiana (our sleeper manufacturer) to get a new one put in. If it failed such that it could be fixed, we'd...

    Gyms and Health Clubs

The exercise rooms and equipment that is showing up in certain truck stops are great but too few in number to be regularly used by expediters who drive all over the country all the time. Have any of you tried gym or health club memberships? What experiences have you or truckers you know had...

Who should you use to send Hazmat?

A carrier may be fully qualified and capable to haul HAZMAT but not every driver in the fleet may. There are a number of individual expediters who can be quite vocal about and proud of their decision to not haul HAZMAT, yet they may also run with a carrier that hauls the stuff. Other drivers in...

    HOS Question

Before answering your HOS question, I must ask, where will you sleep when your co-driver is driving? With no sleeper and with customers who may wish to seal your truck, where will you sleep?

New Hair drug tests for workers.

Urine samples and DNA testing confirms what you post.

New Hair drug tests for workers.

I wonder, how far are we from the compliance geeks saying that if you fail a hair test you should be charged with illegal drug use and sent to prison or at least to mandatory rehab. After all, it would be in the interests of public safety, and if just one life is saved, it would be worth it, right?

New Hair drug tests for workers.

Truckinginfo.com published a good article on this topic in November, 2011. It explains why major carriers are going to hair testing when not required by law to do so. It explains why all carriers are not doing so. And it touches on some of the legal issues, but not on the DNA and privacy issues...

    Van class at expo

For those of us who are unable to attend, might you share what kind of questions were asked? What did people want to know? Were the questions asked about vans today any different than what you have been asked months and years before?
  17. ATeam

So, who's coming to the expo?

Diane and I are under load a long way away. I just want to say to anyone who is thinking about attending the event but has not yet decided, go to the Expo. The Expedite Expo is worth the trip, especially if you have never attended before. Go the the Expo. You'll be glad you did.

Federal Regulators Shut Down ‘Chameleon’ Trucker

There is a difference between shutting down a company and keeping that company's drivers and trucks off the road. A bad-safety-practices company draws DOT attention and gets shut down. What happens? The same people and equipment resurface under a different company name and the DOT shuts that...
