Real life reasons to be careful

It is a >wonderful business and I have not yet looked back and said I >wish I would not have done this. Here! Here! I have many times said I >wish I had not gone at the multiple truck portion of it but >I did. We've found the business to be wonderful driving just one truck. We have no...

    New Truck

After 2.5 years with FedEx CC you bought a reefer truck. Some here at EO argue that reefers are not worth the investment. You obviously don't agree. You voted with your feet AND your wallet. I'd love to hear more about your reefer decision. What motivated you to go reefer? By the way...

    Pallet Height

Instead of cabinets, have you considered shipping cases? They would hold the same stuff as cabinets but could also be moved around to make room for freight when it bacame necessary to do so. We're doing that in our truck. The cases are small enough to lift safely even when full. They can be...

    Why Drivers Quit

    Where's th' freight?

Conventional wisdom voiced by drivers is that January is typically a slow month. Even our carrier states the same in it's contractor manual. Yet for Diane and me, this January has been a very good to date. We're on track for an above-average month. Conventional wisdom also has it that December...

    Laredo Tx

We have relatives in TX. They and their freinds have made trips to Mexico for the same reasons. Word from them is cross at Progresso and park right next to border. Cross bridge on foot to shops. Stay away from some of the other crossings. For us, we'll pay the higher prices. Not worth the risk.

    NEWBIE QUESTiON

Every question you ask can be answered by reading through the posts in the EO Open Forum. Or, at least you can get a lot closer to the answers you seek while refining your questions along the way. Allow me to suggest that you set aside a good block of time to research your own questions...

    When I was a Newbie.

I do not disagree with the advice to drive for a fleet owner first. That's how my wife and I started out. It enabled us to sample the business before committing capital of our own to a new truck. Allow me to mention the importance of being well capitalized before buying your truck. In other...

    Partners in business book

The Partners In Business resource was one of the tools I used to research trucking and write our business plan before we became expediters. It's a little dated now but still a good resource. I understand it is being updated but don't know the details. It is written mostly for tractor/trailer...

VAN , CUBE, OR STRAIGHT TRUCK HELP!!!!!!!!

My wife and I find expediting to be one of the easiest jobs we've ever done UNTIL we decide we need to be someplace in particular. Most of the time, we just go with the flow, accept most load offers (80% or more) and find ourselves wherever the freight takes us. But when we want or need to get...

    Super Singles

That's OUTSTANDING info. Thank you for sharing it. So folks can compare, could you kindly list the price to go out and fix one tire, and two? I'm thinking of the scenerio where you are too far away to limp in on one, or where two go out on you (seen that happen before my eyes on big trucks more...

    Here comes da Mod!

I take no offense if any of my posts are removed, if in the judgment of the moderator, removing it helps maintain the quality that EO is famous for. Forums where flaming is permitted quickly degenerate. They either fail altogether, or lose their credibility in the industry if they continue to...

Average % of empty miles in a week/month

Allow me to ask a follow-up question of the group. Why is it, please, so important to know about your deadhead/empty miles? Perhaps I'm looking at all wrong. When we receive a load offer we immediately add the empty (deadhead) and loaded miles together. We refer to the sum as "all miles." We...
