    Onan's "Revolutionary" New Generator

RE: Onan's Our Onan is wired such that electric power flows to the circuit where Volvo's head bolt heater would normally plug in. Instead of plugging a cord in there (the AC electrical connector near the driver's door), we flip a light switch in the sleeper that routes generator power to the...

    About This "Recession"

It is good to be clear about what one means exactly when the word "recession" is used. When I refer to a recession, I am using the textbook definition; which is, two consecutive quarters of declining gross domestic product. Alternatively, two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. A...

RE: Sleeping while truck is moving and you are not Sleep management was an early challenge for us too. See: "Five Challenges of Expediting" for how we dealt with it. http://www.expeditersonline.com/artman/publish/article_001719.html

    Unions, Expediting and Labor Day

The topic of unions regularly rises here in the Open Forum. I believe it is fair to say that union activists are met with staunch and broad-based opposition from the majority of Open Forum members that have posted their views. Labor Day is a holiday that celebrates the American worker. The...

    $#&*^% DARN IT!!!!

Greg, At Speedco, it is standard procedure to have the driver witness the torquing of the drain plugs, and to initial that you did witness it on the paperwork. When doing that in the past, I have had them show me the setting on their torque wrench before proceeding. None have minded the extra step.

If you turn down loads ,will your company fire you

RE: If you turn down loads ,will your company fire If you look at a load from the shipper's point of view, I believe you will find that most of the time the shipper is offering a fair price for the services requested. The shipper has something he or she wants moved from point A to point B and...

    Negativity

I have noticed that when FedEx drivers happen to group together, the positive and negative ones tend to sort themselves into like-minded groups. I have also noticed that the positive ones appear to be more successful than the negative ones. It's not just a slogan that attitude is everything. A...

RE: Cheer up! A recession is coming and you are go That gets to the point of my post. Having been through several recessions and survived, how did you do so? What did you do different from those that did not survive?

Cheer up! A recession is coming and you are going

Cheer up! A recession is coming and you are going to fail, that is if you are not prepared. Why do I say cheer up? Because you can tell today if you are not prepared, and you can get out now and save yourself a lot of pain when the recession hits. You can also try to get your financial house...

If you turn down loads ,will your company fire you

RE: If you turn down loads ,will your company fire In FedEx Custom Critical's Four Star award program, a load acceptance rate of 70% is one of the eligibilty criteria. In other words, if you turned down 30 out of a hundred loads, the people at FedEx would think your accpetance rate is pretty...

How Do You Secure Your Freight?

If we are at a loading dock, and push comes to shove, and there is no other way agreeable to the shipper, the shipper wins and nails go in the floor. We will fill in the nail holes later with wood putty or Key Polymer's Crack Filler. We carry 2x4s, a hammer and nails as required by FedEx Custom...

How Do You Secure Your Freight?

In a thread started by wombat52, reference to securing freight was made. He said he was hauling totes that shifted and contributed to an accident. It occured to me that a new thread on securing freight might be helpful to some readers. I'll start with hopes that others will jump in and share...

Firegears, I am growing increasingly uncomfortable with your glowing and blanket endorsements of my writings and posts. I fear that you are using my name to tweak the noses of my critics and incite them to react to you. We have enjoyed a period of relative calm in the Open Forum for a while. I...
