    Campgrounds

More and more, we have been spending weekends at campgrounds; most often commercial RV parks, because they are convenient, have showers, have laundry, and have electrical and water hookups at each camp site. We have also stayed at state parks. Those tend to be more primitive; outhouses instead...

Why More Truck Drivers Are Going To Die

From today's Star Tribune (Minneapolis) "WASHINGTON - Bridges are aging and rusting all over the country, but if Congress has its way, Las Vegas will get a history museum out of the Senate-approved transportation and housing bill soon headed to President Bush. "North Dakota will get $450,000...

    Whites turning Gray!

We got rid of all whites (towels, sox, linnens, etc.) a few weeks after we got into trucking. Problem solved.

    WHERE WERE YOU 9-11-2001 ????

We were not yet in the expediting business. I was working in my home office. Diane was on her way to work at the Governor's office in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She heard about it on the car radio and called me. I spent the rest of the day glued to the TV, not believing my eyes. In the Governor's...

Carrier can convert a Dry Box to a reefer?????

Yes, the question was asked before, and the answer is still the same. See: http://www.expeditersonline.com/dcforum/DCForumID16/1901.html#10 Perhaps the reason few if any expediters have converted a dry box to a reefer is because it is not worth doing. I've never done it and would not seriously...

    Useful Financial Calculators

For expediters that are in the business for the money and for whom personal prosperity is a concern, commonly asked questions include; How much will my savings be worth ten years from now? Should I consolodate my debt? Of the various loan choices I have, which is the best? How much monthly...

    D Units on the Highways

Problem we have here, this seems to be a fairly small >regional analysis. Maybe Ohio, West Virginia, North >Carolina. Probably not a real good view of the overall >picture. I agree. There is more to expediting than what any single driver sees on the road. Drawing conclusions about the...

It's the end of the day and you've gotten no offers. How many times this day have you contacted you

RE: Contacting carrier When I read your question, I was surprised to see that zero was not a choice as that was the answer that came to mind. Then when I read your post, I realized that you counted a VRU call as contacting the carrier. When I read the question, I did not consider an automated...

Turtle's post is an excellent example, a leadership example, of how to get information and questions onto the Open Forum without disrespecting another member or putting things in a way that become or might become negatively personal. I thought the word "residence" would suffice in describing...

    FECC Rumor Mill

Greg makes a good point. The ability to access our log book data forever is important. We use our log books at tax time to tabulate per diem deductions. In a tax audit, we would use log books to justify the deduction. The same applies for days spent in Canada (different per diem rate). Every...

    found a new drink

A while ago, and I don't know exactly why, I sat down in one of those blood pressure booths at a store and took a reading. When I announced the numbers to Diane, she said, "That's high." I brushed it off, attributing it to a flawed machine as I have never had high blood pressure in my life...

    Truck inspections.....

Phil, Thanks. What about a DOT roadside >inspection, would that count? (assuming you passed it). Say >you get an inspection in Jan. on your own, then in March you >get a roadside DOT insp. and pass it, are you good to go for >the rest of the year? I guess what I'm asking, since you got >2...

    Truck inspections.....

Don't know about the others. Our contract with FedEX requires us to get the truck inpsected by a certified inspector twice a year. Forms signed by the inspector must be submitted as proof of compliance. In other words, two DOT inspections each year.

RE: Sleeping while truck is moving and you are not Lady Tee & Big Pappa, It took us at least a month to adjust to the expediting sleep realities. There were times, and there are still times today, where we will go out of service to get a full-night's sleep in a non-moving truck. If you are too...

We have one planned trip home a year. That is for Christmas. Typically, the freight will take us close to home (Minnesota) a few times a year. When it does, we may stay for a few days or keep running, depending on how we feel and what work there may be to do at home. Other than our Christmas...
