Haz Mat endorsement: is it worth having on your CDL?

To be fair, there is an inherent risk in hauling HAZMAT, a risk that a lot of people don't want to deal with. Plus, a lot of carriers don't even pay more for the additional risk and responsibilities of hauling HAZMAT. Nearly every shipper pays more for HAZMAT, generally an average of 20% more...

    New Jersey mandates snow-free vehicles

Maybe not. If you've ever seen large chunks of packed snow/ice come off a trailer, or even a car, the winds can catch it and send it anywhere. Often, tailgating directly behind the truck is the best place to be when large chunks of ice come off a trailer (if that trailer has Airtabs, maybe not...

    Diesel Supplements

No one really knows for sure why it happens, or why it only happens here in the States and not in Europe, but the one thing that's different, for sure, that you can point to, is the fact that Euro diesel is 50 cetane and ours varies right around 45, with 48 being premium, and between 40-42 being...

    Who gets the first out?

The customer may dictate which one it goes on. Just depends on what they want to rent the exclusive use of, a Sprinter or a straight. If the customer has no preference, and they pay would be the same regardless, then I'd normally go with OVM"s thinking. However, I hear bigs and straights...

    Diesel Supplements

Power Service Gray gives a cetane boost, which puts US diesel up to Euro and CARB standards, which the Sprinter really likes (and possibly prevents the Black Death that has only surfaced here in the States with lower cetane fuel - if you're not in a Sprinter it's a non-issue). I use a...

Bolt express is a freaking joke...ruining our business

It's a learning process. Today you learned there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the curtain of the Great and Powerful Oz. It's a good day.

Bolt express is a freaking joke...ruining our business

NLMI rankings are complicated and convoluted and you need a computer to figure it all out. The percentage of both winning and losing bids you make has an effect. So does the percentage of on-time deliveries with respect to all of the loads you haul on a given day. That's a large weight in the...

Looking for info on FedExCC Owner-Operators

Training, experience and clearances don't matter nearly as much as the color of the truck. If it's red, you're golden.

Bolt express is a freaking joke...ruining our business

OK, first, let me get this out of the way. Bolt is not trying to monopolize anything. They aren't anywhere near big enough to monopolize. They aren't big enough to have any kind of significant impact on rates or anything else. Rather than trying to monopolize, if anything they are trying to keep...

    Penny in the pond?

Well, yeah. One has to be pedantic in order to fully recognize it in others. Mainly I'm just havin' fun with the language. I can at times be unbelievably pedantic, tho. A few trips through US or Canadian Customs, and you learn to be stoopid pedantic. Answer precisely what was asked, no more...

    A Dictator Has Taken Over

More than that, it's the truth, and cannot be refuted. Which is something that cannot be said about most of the cut-n-pasties.

Why do journalists write about trucking ?

Having a movie made out of your life story is worth compensation. Being interviewed for an article or a book, not so much. The author, Linda Sands, is very likely to come up with a good book on trucking and truckers, if her past works are any indication. She's a good writer.

    A Dictator Has Taken Over

Excellent post, Pilgrim. (You wouldn't know this, of course, but in my head, I sound exactly like John Wayne when I say that.)

    Penny in the pond?

Honestly, I didn't consider all possible viewpoints, since that wasn't presented as a premise. I only considered things from which you presented them, as in, "Under the two scenarios above, what would be your opinion of the carrier..." Now, if you had asked, "Under the two scenarios above, what...

    An Amazing Maize Maze

A view of a 600 foot-long (183 meters) cornfield maze carved in the likeness of Montreal Canadiens great Jean Beliveau in Florenceville, New Brunswick. The farm owners, who designed the maze as a tribute to Beliveau and the Montreal Canadiens, expect over 7000 people to visit the attraction...

They're cheating me. They're either incompetent or they're playing games. Both, actually. One's a thief, the other can't do third grade math, neither are to be trusted. Say what you mean, mean what you say. Vary from either at your peril.

    Places you wont stay

It can depend on whether you are in a van or a truck. There are some places that I wouldn't consider staying at if I were driving a truck, but have no qualms about doing so in a van. The J or the TA in Dallas, the J in Gary, even the J in West Memphis, they're all fine for vans. Trucks, not so much.

    Gasoline additives

It's been shown conclusively that the most effective gasoline additive, the best at cleaning deposits and eliminating pings/knocks, is not to use an additive at all, but rather to simply switch brands of gasolines every 5000 miles. If you are a brand loyalist (and a lot of people are) and will...

Arby's has their Ultimate BLT that comes close to what I'd make at home. For a fast food BLT, it's awesome. They've also got a BLT Wrap, for when you're driving while eating, even though no one does that because it would be distracted driving and no expediters would do such a thing. But I would...
