    What Would You Do?

I don't think so. Middle of nowhere is middle of nowhere. Would I deadhead 20 miles to Belgrade, MT for .71 a mile to Detroit...instead of sitting over the weekend? Yup.

    What Would You Do?

I've never really heard of that happening, but I'm sure it's possible.

    What Would You Do?

No, it's not. Especially to get out of nowhere, middle of. But it's not really the grand it might seem on the surface. That's all I'm saying. As far as rocket science, "It's not rocket science" has been the biggest cause of have-van-will-travel crowd failures in this business.

    What Would You Do?

45 cents a mile is a ballpark common CPM for a Sprinter. 2100 x .45 = $955, leaving $545. Regardless, the Rule of Thirds still apply, and a third of $1500 is $500. So most are going to net between $450 and $550. Newbies need to be aware of stuff like that.

    What Would You Do?

Dismissing your CPM as irrelevant is what enables you to delude yourself into thinking you have $1050 real cash left. A lot of people believe that deadhead doesn't matter, all that matters is getting that next load, racking up that revenue. If you rack up high revenue but your real, actual costs...

    What Would You Do?

I would take that load. Then, when I'm about 40 miles from the pickup the phone would ring, "Sorry, that load just cancelled."

Correct, you're out of line. You are in no position to admonish me about anything, to tell me what to do or what to say. You're not a manager or an officer at Load 1. You're not my boss. You're certainly not my daddy. You don't even know me. You're a fleet owner, a contractor, that's it. How you...

Wolfman, you're out of line. You may be a fleet owner with three drivers, but I ain't one of them. I told John I wouldn't say anything else online about this issue, so I won't. The only thing I apologize for is singling out the individual, but I make no apologies whatsoever for recounting an...

You're right, I don't know whether or not she sent the e-mail. She said, "I'll send him an e-mail," and I have no reason to doubt her word. Or at least I didn't at the time of her saying that. Now, apparently, I have reason to, although I really believe it's nothing more than a case of her...

I understand. But, I would think that even among a million numbers, if someone wanted to avoid a particular number they could remember it in order to avoid it. Especially since so few Load 1 drivers have the same Area Code as mine, those first three numbers stand out if you're looking to avoid...

Exactly! A load that doesn't deliver direct is an unusual, different or out of the ordinary issue, and they will usually tell you when it delivers if it's not direct, and on a Friday they are very good about emphasizing that it doesn't deliver until Monday. When they do that (you know, be honest...

Be interesting to find out who the dispatcher was. Until yesterday I pretty much trusted Dispatch in saying YES to loads without knowing all the details. I trusted them to give me a decent rate, accepting the fact that not all loads are great ones, but that they do their best over the long haul...

When you drive past them and see them. Barricades, barrels, cones and flashing lights, people milling about the road in tennis ball t-shirts. Does Ray La Hood know about this stuff? It's very distracting.

Verizon to ditch phone plans, go with shared plans

You don't have to renew your contract once it expires. You just let it expire and keep going month-to-month if you want. A few years ago I ran mine month-to-month for nearly three years after the contract expired before I wanted to upgrade to a new phone. The only reason you need to sign a new...
