    reliable truck

That doesn't sound good. Did they forget to tighten something down or was this a new problem? Might be of interest to the folks that already have that engine. Davekc

    Fuel Prices!!!!! This is terrible.

I don't think we have seen the end yet. They say it might go down alittle but the oil industry is predicting close to three dollars a gallon by next year. I hope that doesn't come to pass. I know we have put a clamp on any excessive deadhead. Companies are going to have to start adjusting rates...

    PETE 330 FRONT AXLE

I had added the spring issue because it wasn't mentioned as to what he had. I was not aware you could get that kind of sticker from Dana. I thought it would have to come from the manufacturer. Simular to a dump truck when they add additional axles and have to have it recertified. Good advise to...

Take a load, refuse a load

You are probably considering a van which I wasn't aware of. Straight trucks average around 10 to 11 mpg. A van may only be getting paid 80 cents a mile. Under what I listed above, you are operating that van at .40 cents a mile overall. You are still going broke with a van. Same scenerio...

    TIRE BALANCING

They are referring to Equal. I had tried it in a truck several years ago and the stuff got all stuck together because of humidity. It might be better now. I use the centramatics and they seem to work well. As Glen mentioned, they are more expensive than equal. www.centramatic.com is there site...

Thought I would ask and quit answering

Alot of different approaches can be used. The biggest issue is finding quality drivers. I would start at that end before the truck. If cash reserves are tight, consider a private lease-purchase from an owner. Another option is to lease a truck. Under that plan, you must know EXACTLY what you are...

    Written Contract

Whether an owner operator, contract driver, employee ect. you should have any agreements in writing. This will prevent a relationship from turning sour or one party having a different interpretation of what is expected from the other. Davekc

Take a load, refuse a load

That is a good comparison. You always have to plan for the next move. In addition, you must know what your cost per mile is. That is the most inportant number. It amazes me how many drivers don't really know what it costs to operate their truck. With fuel at or above $2.00 a gallon, this is a...

    reliable truck

I think that is a cool picture. You may have the wife sold on that with some red paint. With the kw's being so reliable it would be tough to change. With the Sterlings though, the jury is still out on how they hold up ect. I wouldn't mind the extra cab room! Davekc

This may not be the Place but THIS HAS TO BE SAID

RE: This may not be the Place but THIS HAS TO BE S I think everyone is hitting it on the head. You can't take CBS and Dan Blather as gospel. Watch Fox news and you tend to get a clearer picture of what is going on over there. The good and the bad. I take this on advise from a brother that just...

    sprinter genset

Is that the same unit that truckgen in Jacksonville builds. They had that unit at the expo. Nice setup and reasonably priced.

E-track load bars, what do you do with them?

I lock them in the nose of the box. I you have a careless forklift driver, you would prefer a damaged load bar versas a forklift fork through your box. Or worse yet, I seen a Ford tow motor driver drive through a guys box and put his forks right in the sleeper. Load bars can be had for $50.00 or...

    suspension air dump during loading/unloading?

I don't think it would make that much difference. I use the dump for adjusting the box height to the dock rather than for any form of support. Once your landing gear is down, it will support the majority of the weight regardless. Davekc

    Written Contract

Belonging to the BBB means nothing. You as an owner pay a few to be part of their organization. Without a doubt, get EVERYTHING, and I do mean EVERYTHING in writing. If you don't understand it, pay the $200.00 and have an attorney explain it to you. Be rest assured that if nothing is in writing...

    reliable truck

They have had numerous problems with the Mercedes engine but it seems limited to the M2's not the Sterlings. Not sure why. I like the Sterling cab but like my sleeper over the Benz 96. Not sure how sound the Sterling cab is either. Haven't seen too many of them out there. Davekc

    laptop and gps

If buying a computer, go to best buy because they can fix simple things. Like all the others, if it is a major crash, it has to be sent out. As far as mapping, we use the delorme 2003. Wife likes it better than the new 2004 version. Davekc

Take a load, refuse a load

There are alot of factors to consider. Time of day the offer is given and where you are located Where the load goes. Does your company have the ability in that area to get you a load back. Some companies pay deadhead miles and some don't or very little. How far are you deadheading to pick up the...

    To the point

Almost the same answer. I drive for Panther, so of course that is my first choice with Fedex being the second. Just my opinion of course since I have driven for both. You will get many answers on this one. Davekc
