    How Many Miles ?

How many miles did you put on your cargo van's or Sprinter's odometer last year? "It's not about the miles, it's about the money!" How may miles did you get on your last set of tires? "It's not about the miles, it's about the money!" How may miles do you go between oil changes? "It's not...

    Another "Zero Tolerance" Runs Amok

A wildly popular science teacher has been removed from the classroom after two of his science fair students turned in projects deemed dangerous by the administrators. Greg Schiller teaches Advanced Placement biology and psychology, and honors biology at Grand Arts High School in Los Angeles...

    How Many Miles ?

Not really from scratch, just from the OP, second paragraph, first sentence.

If you had responded about the issues instead of the motivations of the poster the path would have been even shorter.

Yes, exactly, LESS inclined to post. People are entitled to post their opinion based on whatever amount of information they like. Like I said, you can address the issues without creating a witness-stand cross examination of his statements.

I don't think such a derogatory characterization is necessary, either. I just think going after an off handed forum comment with both barrels is a little much. It's the kind of response that doesn't exactly encourage posters to participate. Makes them gun shy, as it were.

Yeah, it's an open forum where opinions based on "next to nothing" is the order of things. I just think you came on a little strong when all you had to do was state your opinion on the issue instead of creating a confrontation that put him on the defensive.

    How Many Miles ?

It's volume of miles, not net dollars as a result of those miles. The majority of van and Sprinter drivers will run between 60,000 and 80,000 loaded miles a year. Pick a number, divide it by 52, and work it out from there. There are, of course, exceptions to everything.

    percentage or milage

Even if it doesn't kick in after delivery to the layover, and even if deadhead is 50 percent, that's still 30 cents a mile, which is a decent rate of pay for a Sprinter driver who doesn't own the Sprinter. There are new drivers for large carriers, like Werner, that start off at 28 cents a mile...

    percentage or milage

Right. 40 cents per loaded mile is pretty good. ANY cents for unloaded deadheaded miles is awesome. Most of the 60/40 splits, nor the per-mile pay setups, don't pay anything for unloaded miles. So if you get 40 loaded and 20 to go get it, and the owner is paying fuel and tolls, it's a good deal.

    percentage or milage

Probably out of thin air, to show an extreme example of headhead (dh - or driving while unloaded), and the fact that even at such a ridiculous deadhead (dh) figure you can make at least acceptable money ($).

    The Pee That Ruined Portland

Thirty-eight million gallons of treated, ready-to-drink water will be flushed into the Columbia River after a teenager peed in a city reservoir. The city admits that there's no public health risk from a few drops of pee, but it's more of a service issue, says Water Bureau Administrator David...

The "they" is pretty obvious, it is the people, both in and out of government, who want to eliminate guns. There are people who think that if you eliminate guns you will eliminate murder. I listened to a radio show and heard this exchange between a caller and a well-known liberal Democrat, for...
