    Flying j or rv park??

Most flying Js have marked RV parking spots. I always figured that they were first come first served but they do tend to spill over into general parking. I own a travel trailer myself but I have never parked it in any truck stop. It just doesn't seem like much of a getaway spot to me. If I were...

Sprinter as a family transport vehicle

I loved my Sprinter but I don't think I'd be very interested in buying a used one. The one you are looking at is at the right age and mileage to be ready for a new transmission unless it's had above average care. Mine went out at 320,000 with regular service using the proper fluids at the...

    Cell Phone

I have Alltel (5 years) and I am very pleased with the service and the rates. I have fewer dropped calls than I had with Verizon and Nextel as well.

    whats left

OVM is so busy because, when I sold my Sprinter and retired, I insisted that he would get all the loads that I would have had. All kidding aside, it probably has a little to do with that. So many people leaving the business has a way of leveling the playing field. It leaves more business for...

    Oh My great Sprinter

Same with me. I did the front brakes at about 180,000 and the rears were still good at 320,000. You can't get a lot of freight delivered if you are stopping all the time. Like the old Italian race car driver said. "Whatsa behind me, she no matter, as long as I no usa da brakes."

    Oh My great Sprinter

I spent 25 years in the automotive aftermarket and quality was not an issue on most items at that time. Lately, there is a lot more cheap import stuff out there though. You have to be careful but there are still lots of good quality aftermarket parts available for most makes. Maybe not so many...

    idling

I don't think it's recommended but I know a few guys who do it. I shure wouldn't sleep that way unless I had a CO detecter.

    Oh My great Sprinter

The tranny is toast, dead, wheels up, she no go no more. I retired and now the Sprinter has done the same.

I really won't know until today or sometime tomorrow. I'll let you know.

    Oh My great Sprinter

Mine sorta went Brrrrrrrrr, Thump, screech, Rev, Rev, Rev. The technical term for that is, "the transmission is all boogered up".

    Oh My great Sprinter

I don't think my Sprinter likes me. Every time I brag it up it does something to me. Just after I posted my last post the transmission just flat went out. Won't stay in gear (slips after two or more upshifts and then disengages) and won't shift to any gear other than drive and reverse. Managed...

    Oh My great Sprinter

I have few complaints with mine. The maintenance and care have been kept up by the book but I do have a few issues. Parts and competent service are hard to come by and are more expensive than other vehicles. Stll it's cheaper and less likely to need repair than my last truck (Freightliner FL70)...

    Whitewolfs lawsuit?

All of us are looking for something in a carrier whether we know it or not. We are all different and in fact, some of us are real different. I have met a few who are beyond different and some would say that of me. My point is that some of us are lucky enough to find a carrier that fits on the...

    Status Clarification

I decided to go directly to grouchy old fart or what I call "GOF" right away and skip all the stuff in the middle. Actually I call it grouchy old chubby fart or "GOCF". Now I'm a grouchy old chubby retired fart, "GORF", as of last week but the boredom is setting in and the wife is getting tired...

How Do Cargo Van Drivers Make Money At 70 Cents Per Mile?

Ok, Now you blow a water pump or your belt tensioner lets go. Pay for the repairs and the towing and how much do you have left from your$440. Even without the QC or Workmans comp you are way in the hole and you're still not making a living wage unless you're living in the truck and you have no...

How Do Cargo Van Drivers Make Money At 70 Cents Per Mile?

I really can't see how .70 a mile can pay period. The more miles you run the more maintenance, repairs and tires you will need. Your time on the road is worth more than minimum wage and that's what you will be making. All you are doing is buying yourself a job with long hours and poor living...

    Avatars and Screen Names

My screen name is real easy, it's just a combination of my initials and my street address. My avitar is White Shoal Light Station. I was one of the last people to be a lighthouse keeper and I was stationed there in 1966.
