    Nevada 95 north

Grew up out there. Love that drive. Been over it in some of the best conditions and some of the worst. Love it all. One time we were headed up to Tonopah and there was an explosives truck that turned over on the pass so instead of waiting we cut through Death Valley at Midnight. It was the...

    What are you thankful for?

Great photo! I am grateful for the Red, White and Blue and that there is an election coming up next year so we can have the hope to change the people in charge. I am grateful we can start at the top and work our way down.

    Straight vs Sprinter vs Cargo

We have averaged 2200 miles per week in our van since May. That is enough for us to put $ in savings every week. The down side is the comfort level. I would rule out a cargo van because it is very difficult to live in full time for a team. Even with the extended van it is tight and my wife...

Bagged by a 6 point buck!

I was an insurance adjuster before I started a "van new lifestyle". I've played that game from both sides as an independent adjuster for several companies. They can be tough, but if you can't argue once in a while, what fun would be left? Let the games begin.

So You Sit or Do You Move? Try This Decision Aid

We do something similar using the phone system and going back 3 weeks to see how many loads get sent out. We also keep a list of every express center and have listed the ones that have weekend loads from time to time. It has served us well so far.

Bagged by a 6 point buck!

I'll take my chances. If I hit something solid enough to crumple me to the glass, I may regret the grill guard. But for now I'm lovin' it. It's also a good place for the deer whistles that turtle said don't work. Now just gotta add the fog lights and maybe a pot hole alert system so I can...

Bagged by a 6 point buck!

We installed a brush guard (deer catcher) on the van a few weeks ago. We are just hoping it will cut down on the damage and down time when (not if) we hit a deer. We saw where someone had it a bear coming into Asheville, NC night before last. Way too many close calls for us. We have slowed...

Guess I will have to add that to my PM every 6 months or so. There is always something to do.

    Question on yearly net income.

I don't know about anyone else but the deadhead is greater than 10% for us. It depends on who you drive for and which runs you accept. As a team we take long runs when we can but some times the deadhead after the delivery can eat you up. As a solo with shorter runs if you stay in the freight...

Chevy with throttle body prob. Am I the only one?

We had to put the truck in the shop this weekend cuz the van let us down. The check engine light came on and then the van started stalling out with a reduced power message. We let it set for a short time and restarted it. Everything was okay so we made our delivery about 20 miles away. Then...

    Changing Times in Expediting.

I would consider going to a class 7 but my wife would not go with me. She feels like the van is big enough to handle, she has no desire to go to anything bigger. I drove a TT for 3 years prior to this and would never go back. I will wait tables a Denny's first. It would also be tough to make...

    Changing Times in Expediting.

My main concern with over loading a van or sprinter is... When one tail ends a bus load of nuns because he is too heavy and then the cry will go out to make all vanner's start scaling and logging. That will be the end of a very nice gig. With the Sprinter max weight at 8800# on the single rear...

    TN To Fight Terrorism Statewide.....

We came through Eagle Pass the other day and they asked us if they could search our van with a drug dog. We said okay and they made us wait until one was available and could be brought to the site. It's kinda funny cuz they do the walk around with the dogs every time we come through but this...

Deadhead Home vs. Waiting it Out

We get weekend loads about one out of every three weekends. We almost always deliver on a Saturday morning and then wait. We have only been home once since May. Except for a couple of drive throughs while we were loaded and we just picked up the mail at midnight and kept running. If you are...
