I would say they are the same whether a shop is union or not. The difference is a non-union shop will fire and replace them. Teachers and fireman may or may not deal with the same issues. Some of that depends on the location. One one extreme they may be totally underpaid. On the other, they may well be overpaid. Look at California. You have a average taxpayer at 50k a year supporting teachers at 65k plus a pension and...

Unions of today are not operating with any fairness in mind. They are essentially political machines that extract anything they can from whomever they can to promote their agenda.

I think that is a problem that many towns are facing. Constant union wants and demands verses a shrinking tax base through lower wage base and housing values. Just a race to see who goes broke first.

I think the film is the reason they are using now. If they had been planning this attack for some time in Libya, not sure they even knew of the movie? They did know about 9/11. I tend to think that was the real driver.
