    Going independent

License plates deal with the amount of taxes you pay to the state to register the vehicle, and has nothing to do with making the vehicle into a Commercial Motor Vehicle. The signs that say "all commercial vehicles" need to stop are referring to heavy trucks, buses and HAZMAT placarded vehicles...

The U.S. Is Sitting on a Mountain of Cheese

The Millennials have discovered European butter, because it, like Millennials, is über pretentious. They shop at Whole Foods, Sephora, Trader Joe's, use Axe personal care products, only drink specialty coffees, and are gluten-free without even knowing why. European butter is, by and large...

    April @ Team Load One

I got a call today. Ft Worth to Tonawanda, NY. Delivers Tuesday morning. 1400+ miles. Sounds good. Yeah, sure, I'll do that. Then found out it was going to bid at 55 cents a mile, roughly $770 for the run. "We have to bid that low to get out of Texas." In order to "get out of Texas," I'll...

    1 Million points question :)

Here is the relevant section of the regulations. It specifies things that must be in the lease, including escrow funds and how long they can keep it before returning it, and how much time can pass before they are required to pay you for the loads once the necessary paperwork has been delivered...

I went to pick up a load today, a large cable spool. The shipper apparently thinks a 56-inch diameter spool placed on a 48x48 inch pallet makes it 48 inches wide. No, it doesn't.

    1 Million points question :)

Con-Way NOW, Panther and Load One all made it very clear right up front that I could obtain OAC on my own or I could get it through them. There was no pressure either way.

    General sprinter rearend question

Yes, they are. Rear end issues are not unheard of, but they are rare. I'm still on my original seals. I once drove down a mountain right after they re-opened the roads after a snowfall, and the road was basically asphalt covered in 18-inches of highly compacted ice that had been thoroughly...

Why does a Sprinter put me to sleep

Take it to Wayne Rodd in Toledo. It'll be less than a third the cost at a dealer.

Why does a Sprinter put me to sleep

It's a good idea to pull that cover every 6 months or so and just look around. You want to look for Black Death and the amber colored beginnings of it, and also if you've got and puddles of fuel. The snaps that connect the fuel rail to the top of each injector can crack and will leak fuel. The...

Why does a Sprinter put me to sleep

Twice I have been the victim of the Black Death. The first time it was fixed within a week of detection. It stank. It didn't smell like diesel fumes or exhaust, but rather some unholy mixture of fumes, exhaust, burning hair and a stale rest home. The second time it didn't smell at all, and I...

Why does a Sprinter put me to sleep

While diesel emissions could certainly generate lethal ambient concentrations of carbon monoxide given a sufficient amount of time in an enclosed space and under suitable environmental conditions, it's virtually impossible to find such conditions in a Sprinter, especially a moving one...

Why does a Sprinter put me to sleep

Diesel exhaust contains almost no carbon monoxide, so that shouldn't be an issue.

    Panther vs Fedex Expedite

It you want to make the best rates at either Panther or FedEx, the truck (however many you want) needs to be leased on with them (meaning not leased on with XPO) and not just a bargain basement bid board partner carrier. In other words, you need to move trucks from XPO to the other carrier.

    April @ Team Load One

Got another load shortly thereafter, so I really don't know if they reset or not. It was interesting how it was presented. Wasn't like it was really and truly being offered. It was more like (paraphrasing), "This is a really crappy load, especially with that much deadhead to go get it, but I...
