    Sylectus

Sylectus is not a load board. It is a darn good dispatch system that happens to have a load board as one of its features, but it's not exactly a load board in the real sense. The load are all user posted. We went up to Pro a month ago and so far it's been a good decision. It's not cheap...

    The truckin' bozo!

I always got the impression that it wasn't just a job with him, that he actually gave a darn. A couple years ago I was listening to his afternoon show on XM and there was an interesting topic but I couldn't get through on the phones before the show ended. I went to his web site and fired off...

    The truckin' bozo!

I never met the guy, but I can't help feeling like I just lost a friend.

    The truckin' bozo!

If someone's poor health and possible death was an answer to my prayers, I think there would be cause to question exactly who it was I was praying to.

    Back soliciting

That would work if you know before the load picks up where it's coming from, which often isn't the case, unless it's NLM. A lot of times you don't even know after you pick up the load because that information isn't often on the BOL.

    Back soliciting

I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that we're sitting there fishing through the BOLs looking for freight sources. The 3PLs that we're dealing with are ones that in a lot of cases we were pursuing for a number of years and finally got in the door with. In some cases it was because we had to...

IF you chose a smaller carrier...

    Back soliciting

We haven't been going after sources the way that you mention, but we've been recently approved for some of the larger 3PLs that everybody and their brother is hauling for and when I occasionally see a load posted on Sylectus it makes me wonder how often we might have hauled some of those loads...

    Back soliciting

That is basically back soliciting, but there are also situations where a carrier already knows about a freight source, but just doesn't have access to it initially, like NLM. Everyone knows about NLM, but for a few years it wasn't that easy for small carriers to get access and even now smaller...

Whats the strangest thing you have hauled?

When I did courier driving we would get these produce runs from a produce warehouse to local restaurants when they were running out of something. On several occasions I would take something like 6 heads of lettuce to a restaurant that was next door to a Kroger.

Whats the strangest thing you have hauled?

I imagine it's going to take others a bit longer to get out.

Whats the strangest thing you have hauled?

I hauled a lot of helicopter parts to Sikorskey in CT.

Whats the strangest thing you have hauled?

One of our straight teams did an interesting one a couple weeks ago. It was a 15' x 15' video screen that was loaded in pieces in Indiana. They drove it to Seattle where the same guy who loaded it had flown out there to meet them and unload it. It was set up in Safeco Field and used to show...

    Warning Bad Driver!

I saw your Sylectus email and made a note of the name, even though we're not currently taking vans at the moment. This kind of bums me out. For small carriers, reputation is everything and a reputation for good service can go a long way toward being awarded loads on a consistent basis. When...

    Gyms and Health Clubs

Health club memberships make a ton of sense for van drivers as a cheaper source for showers as well. You can often get fuel cheaper at gas stations than at truck stops anyway, so you can buy your fuel wherever you darn well please instead of having to get those half shower credits at the J and...

    Gyms and Health Clubs

A lot of chains are part of a health club alliance called IHRSA, and many of those clubs will let you in for the day if you belong to another member club. I belong to Urban Active which is only $25 a month.

Organizing the pot luck cookout @ the Expo

I baked about 6 dozen yeast rolls last night. They will be in our booth and someone can stop by close to 4:00 and pick them up.
