    Hazmat question

It could be under 1000 lbs and not require placards, or it could be over that weight and not require placards, or it could be above or under 1000 lbs and require placards. It depends on what product it is and how it's packaged. For example: We did a load a couple weeks ago that was listed...

    Hazmat question

Each UN number has its own requirement and specifications. If the product you're carrying is at or above the reportable quantity for that product, then it's required to have placards and you're required to have an endorsement. I don't think the vehicle it's in matters at that point.

    why

On the contrary, the Lord appointed grammar police because if there's one thing He doesn't like it's people who don't have the self respect required to learn the proper use of the language of the country He saw fit to place them in. Just my two cents.

    Mlk day

For the most part freight levels seem to be a little slower today, but there is stuff moving. I've seen Ford, GM, and Nissan all post stuff this morning, but not nearly the numbers we were seeing on Friday. Then there are the non automotive sources that have a good number of loads today.

Now right after I post that a GM load just popped up from MI to TX, so I guess there is some auto freight moving today.

Not much auto freight moving today. There's a Nissan load sitting on the board right now, SC to TN, but I haven't seen much else today. There's been a fair amount of non auto freight though.

We require you to have a minimum of $25,000 cargo insurance...

Wow. We've never hauled anything worth more than our cargo limit, at least not that I'm aware of. 3 million seems like quite a bit. Yep, might be a scam there.

We require you to have a minimum of $25,000 cargo insurance...

Good point. You have to do everything you can set yourself apart from the herd. There are a couple other things as well that I've gotten from reading this thread. First, if you don't have authority, the word carrier doesn't apply in any way to your business model. You're not a carrier...

    Looking at Non Stop

They're a good solid company from our experience. We've been doing business with them for almost four years now. They get a lot of decent freight in and out of NC.

How common is overloading vans and Sprinters?

We've currently got about 10 that used to be contracted to a much larger carrier and are doing well with us, and a couple who moved up from vans. There are always a few dissatisfied folks out there, or van people looking to make the jump up.

How common is overloading vans and Sprinters?

You're right on for the most part, but still even with C.H. Robinson and the like you can still get into competitive areas and need to drop a little on the rate, just not as bad with the straights as with the vans.

How common is overloading vans and Sprinters?

That JB Hunt drop and hook junk is way too cheap. You get someone to lease on with a tractor you're better off leasing or renting a trailer, or buying one outright if you can afford it. We have a couple tractors now and we've been able to run them pretty good. You'll make back what you spend...

How common is overloading vans and Sprinters?

Yeah, a high profile crash would do it, but I'd rather not see someone have to die. Also, I don't want us to be the carrier that happens to. I don't want to imagine the lawsuits.

How common is overloading vans and Sprinters?

I just saw a 4500 lb load posted for a Sprinter, so I decided to email the company who had it listed to see if the vehicle type had been selected by accident, because we have a straight truck in the area and would have liked to do the load. I got an email back from someone who said that they...

    Slow cargo van freight?

Regarding the title, what sets freight for slow cargo vans apart from freight for other vans? More time on the run?

Election Over: What, If Anything, Will You Do Different With Your Expedite Business?

Re: Election Over: What, If Anything, Will You Do Different With Your Expedite Busine I'm not sure how to answer this without getting too political, but here goes. For the most part we're not going to change anything at all. Currently we're not recruiting cargo vans and focusing on large...

    Sylectus

If you're looking at adding owner operators, you might want to cultivate some other freight sources as well. it's easy to look at the sheer volume of freight being posted on there and think you're going to be set, but you really need to have a few others as well. A load gets posted on there...
