June idle chit chat and banter and freight hauling

Yep. One inescapable truth about trucking is, too much deadhead will kill you, and it doesn't take very much for it to become too much. I am dead set against deadheading, especially when it's deadheading in the same direction that paying freight would otherwise take me. I will, absolutely...

On many loads I did, too. But the 4 shippers above, I knew what they paid, and I stuck to my guns. I told them straight up I know what those shippers pay and I won't run HAZMAT from them on the cheap. I simply asked for 62% (despite not being contracted on a percentage), which I thought was...

Yes, it is. However, that 600 miles can be very different if it's all on your own dime to relocate to a better area, versus having at least the fuel paid by someone else for the same relocation. I've never been talked into a paid relocation, unless I wasn't already considering deadheading there...

In taking with drivers from other carriers, several of them paid significantly more than a regular rate, but I can only speak to my own experiences at Con-Way NOW. My very first load in expediting was four drums of HAZMAT paint from Decatur, AL to Wrigley Field. It paid $2.08 a mile. My second...

DING! DING! DING! We have a winner! There used to be a huge incentive. Hazardous material requiring placards used to pay nearly double that of a non-HAZMAT load. It was worth the additional hassles and risks involved, and it was worth the time and trouble for HAZMAT education and...

I was told the exact same thing by a MSP officer (at a Subway in Grand Rapids). He said OOS technically only applies to CMVs and that No Logs Required would be most accurate, even preferable to Off Duty.

    Assyst -18000 miles?

I don't think I'd be buying oil at a Walmart that adds an HST. I'd be buying oil at a Walmart in Buffalo. I bought 2 jugs the other day. Price was $22.88 each plus 6% South Carolina sales tax. Total paid for the two jugs was $48.51.

Because that's how Safety told me to do it. If I hadn't had a HAZMAT load within the past 7 days they had me fill out a HOS Certificate. Otherwise, they just had me log the HAZMAT load and continue to log for the next 7 days.

So, a truck driver's very first day behind the wheel of a CMV would require him to log the previous 7 days that he was working at the Home Depot? It is true that once you get behind the wheel of a CMV, like when a van gets placarded, that you are instantly a CMV driver and must comply with all...

It's not really a gray area. I was initially told how to do this by a DOT officer and had it confirmed by two others. It was later confirmed many times over at scale houses across this fine country of ours. Back in the days of yore when I was at Con-Way NOW, I ran a lot of HAZMAT. So much so...

    June and load one

I was in Duncan, SC. Went over through Clemson and picked up a load in Westminster Saturday afternoon going to Hebron, KY Monday morning. It pays uncharacteristically well. It pays almost enough to have to deal with US 23 up through Clayton, GA and those 2 lane curvy mountain roads for 100...

The signs that say "all placarded vehicles" is just a strong reminder to cargo vans that when they are placarded they are in fact Commercial Motor Vehicles and thus need to stop at the weigh stations same as every other CMV. It's a lot easier than you might think to recreate the previous 7 days...

"If you use an oil that's on THE LIST, you can almost always trust the ASSYST." - Turtle Cochran The reason you can't always always trust the ASSYST is because you can actually reset the ASSYST computer to stop using the Oil Quality Sensor and instead cause it to do a straight mileage...

Orlando Terrorist Attack: 50 Dead, 53 Injured

He tried to be a cop, but they kicked him out of the Academy because he was too crazy. That's pretty bad. But having "displayed radical Islamic sympathies for years" may be a stretch. Yes, he cheered the 911 attacks, but he did that the day it happened, on Tuesday, September 11, before anyone...
