    Warning Bad Driver!

They don't have much choice about cutting you some slack. We're independent contractors, so to some extent at least the route we use is chosen by us according to our experience. If the company wishes to make us follow the Approved Route without deviation, then it gets perilously close to making...

    Warning Bad Driver!

I just looked up Macropoint. One of the first hits on DuckDuckGo (my preferred search engine) is the Macropoint website. Judging by what I see there, I wouldn't have a problem with this since I do control quite a good bit of the thing. Hard to see exactly what the problem would be. Mobile...

    Warning Bad Driver!

I wonder if, somewhere out in the wilds of Expediterland, there's an evil witch's brew of bad owners/bad drivers. Seems to me some of them deserve each other.

    Warning Bad Driver!

It's a bit less of an issue with me because I run out and back anyway. The only variable is that I might take the "short" way home instead of the "fast" way home. Usually, I check in a few times on the way back, too--- not that it ever matters since they never have anything on the back-haul. So...

    Warning Bad Driver!

Semi-blind post, in response to some posts on the first page of this thread: If it comes down to having a tracking device in my van, I have no trouble with that-- with this caveat. We both understand that when I have your customer's freight on my van, it's your dime and your dance floor...

Putting the 2200 lb skid on the tail caused the problem. The extended E-350 has quite an overhang, and even if that skid had been by itself that was the wrong place for it.

Cat scales are your friend. Next time you're at a truck-stop, no freight on board but you have a full tank, see what your van really does weigh with you and your personal gear in it. You'll get an axle-weight too, just so's you know. Subtract the Cat Scale weight from your door sticker GVWR and...

    To CV, Sprinter, Cubes...

For me, it's simple enough. I'm getting paid by the mile. At a certain point, it's just not worth it to try to squeeze on a few hundred pounds more. Sure, the van might handle it and you might not even see the springs sag that much, but-- your power-train still has to start and move that weight...

It's not good business sense. We're paid by the mile-- at least most of us are. I might be able to haul a three-thousand pound load, but it will push my van to the limit and it won't pay a penny more than a three-hundred pound load would pay. The wear and tear, the increased braking distance---...

    $4.00 a gallon is back ....

I just passed the Speedway an hour ago, the one near where I live had gas at 4.15 a gallon. Good thing I filled up earlier when it was only (!!!) 3.79 a gallon. I expect prices to be alarming up here in the Mid-West for a while now. A pipeline break in Wisconsin and a fire at the BP refinery...

    warrning bad owner

OK. Now we're getting somewhere. I wonder, given the fact that vans don't make top dollar anywhere, how you could expect to be paid much as a driver. It's hard enough as an O/O of a van to make anything, now divide that between owner and driver----. I don't wonder that the van is poorly equipped...

caution, cash-strapped states resorting to open thievery

I wonder if this is a good time to say I have one of those I-Pass thingies. I pay half of what I would have to pay if I paid in cash on the Illinois tollway, and in Indiana they add three cents to the toll. In EZ Pass territory the toll is the same whether electronic or cash, but the I-Pass tag...

    True crime OTR..

I am beginning to think that certain chain truck stops are tied in with the Fast Food Mafia. I remember that a lot of truck stops had restaurants and some of them weren't too bad. Now, it seems like nothing but one fast food joint after another, with McD's and Subway leading the pack. Now...

What is the negative side of expediting?

I think if you want to find the negative about being a vanner in expedited, you'll find plenty and to spare. On the other hand--- this is a job you simply can't do for long unless you love the lifestyle on some level. Some people pay big money to go camping one week a year. We get paid to camp...

What is the negative side of expediting?

I drove one of those once as a rental. I noticed just what you said, the payload was less than any 2500 series van and because it's a baby box truck it consumes more fuel. Great for moving from one apartment to another, not so good for trying to make a living.

    Shredded, Scatterd and Gatorred

We're ALL running nitrogen, just some are running more than others. If you put air in your tires, it's about 78% nitrogen, or so they tell me.

    "as-is" warranty

How much of an inspection? "It came in under its own power, the lights work, when we step on the brakes it stops---" is a whole different thing from a complete mechanical inspection. I've bought a couple of vehicles "as is", and when you buy an older vehicle with lots of miles on it, the kind of...

    The Big Lie

I'm kinda surprised this thread hasn't been locked already. Letting a thread continue when the sole purpose is to rag on a carrier isn't the usual pattern. I note that so far, only the OP is having a cow over Load 1. All the drivers that lease for them seem happy enough, if the company were...

    Truck Driver's IQ

OK, what kind of advice would you be looking for? If you're wondering about the Higgs-Boson, this probably isn't the place to look. If your water pump is leaking and you're looking for a place to get a replacement, somebody here knows where to get the best replacement at the best price. So, I...

Do You or Do You Not Use The Power Deck System?

You have good reason for not feeling safe. It's hard to make anything on wheels immovable. Slightly off-topic, but not by much: Carferries have to chock freight cars to keep them from moving while crossing the lake. Even after jacking them up, chocking the wheels with clamping locks and...
