365 days later..a newbie speaks out

What? A newbie who has never been in a truck has a large learning curve. Even someone coming from the main stream trucking has a large learning curve. There is no easy business, the work is easy the business is not. Even under a fleet owner there is a mistakes that are made and money lost...

    New fuel program in Panther

Two Mother Truckers Thanks, Well I am still puzzled by how they expect you to make money or do they? OK, I understand that many of the customers have voluntary FSC but in reality this does nothing for the company, the industry and actually hurts the customers in the long run. I know...

    Understanding Return on Investment (ROI)

THANK YOU Dave. :) It seems that for some reason with, I think, three or may four threads on the same subject, we should get the picture by now. It is not like we are talking about important items, say like Goats or Wal-mart, chinchillas or the important EO bobble heads.

the winds of war are a blowing

OK here is a really stupid question; I know about CH robinson, now I know about JB hunt, but can someone tell me where the other places are where this freight is hiding? If you don't want to post it, pm me.

    New fuel program in Panther

I am wondering about something; if you get a contracted load with a low or unrealistic FSC, how much do you actually get? Like $1.30 a mile? The second wonder is; Why are you even tolerating low FSCs? and the third wonder is; has the acceptance rate for these loads dropped at all or is...

    I'm Out

I apologize to all for the following response. Well Whitey1, I meant what I said sincerely and really hope everyone does well out here. If that does not meet with your level of sincerity, well what can I say. How would you know what a 'faker' I am? You seem to pick people out rather well...

poor babies... no homework for you

1- this is Britain, the place that they charge kids who want to learn with a crime of discrimination because they haven't figured out that native english kids can't learn 10 different languages to adapt to other kids - the schools refuse to teach the natvie english kids these languages because...

    Ridiculous Gas Prices!

Hey that was over 30 years ago..... But as of yesterday, the biggest support of the Kyoto protocol has come up with a great observation - It seems it has dawned on Miklos Zagoni that the computer models used for predicting global warming are all wrong and his work with ALGORE seems to be a...

    Expediting for me? Opinions Needed!

Well, CARB has truckers by the neck and they are squeezing hard. I won't go into the explanation of what is acceptable and what is not but I would consider getting a gas generator instead of a diesel generator if you plan on being in the BIG CA for any time.

    Ridiculous Gas Prices!

Dude, this is not the oil companies who have done this, it is the government. When will people understand that the oil companies really don't want to see the devalued dollar and they don't want to make their product harder to get for people - less product they sell, the less money they make...

    Expediting for me? Opinions Needed!

NO you don't need no APU, unless you like to roast and freeze Yes I would look at one, but I would also think if you are going to go to the big CA, maybe look at one of the new alternative systems that are now coming out. You know that they are crying out there because of CARB.

    dazed and confused

I first bought a motor carriers atlas, laminated. It has been a great help because some times the GPS system does not mention the 12 foot bridge in Illinois on a road that no one ever drives on. I have MS Streets & Trips, 2006 bought it with the GPS receiver, the software works well, sometimes...

    Wierd Western Star

Piper, it may be one from those two years. The gap was large. Moot, I wish I had my camera when I sat down at the border in San Diego, I saw a Mexican KW chopped, lowered and channeled pulling a polished trailer behind it. It was something amazing to see as much as the old Ford COE C truck...

Do you get sick of the food?

That is so true, they make so much money. Ah..... not necessarily? I would say 99% of the food is below that of McDonalds food in quality and fat.

    Wierd Western Star

Yesterday as I was pulling out of the truck stop, turning left in front of me at the entrance was a western star. Nothing special about it, pulling a 48' trailer but I looked and had to look again. The hood, cab and sleeper were sitting above the frame about 4 or 5 inches - big gap between...

So you don't get paid? I would say if you drive a truck and get paid, you are a professional... maybe more professional than most....:) Good post.

    Expediting for me? Opinions Needed!

Jim, The reason I recommend a class A is to be versatile in the ability to drive anything and so you can make money if the D unit freight dries up or you can't get a D unit to drive. We are in a changing expediter world, with high fuel prices and with changes in industry, having as many tools...

the winds of war are a blowing

Strike? What this crap again? Look guys, if these truckers think that a strike will help, it will not. It will p*ss people off to the point that the public will be less sympathetic than ever before. Nothing more than a bunch of angry people stuck in traffic trying to get to pick up their kids...
