I don't know who wrote it either, but I'd bet that it was a Scorpio, lol. They really do get even, when they get mad......:D

I believe that RELENT has it right: as long as we continue to be polarized by the Republican vs Democrat, Conservative vs Liberal, management vs labor divisions, we will never get past the labels, and on to solving the problems. The Cleveland Plain Dealer used to run a feature that was really...

Carriers: 2009 To Be Slow Year in Trucking

    (5) If times get really, really tough, we can remodel the inside of the truck body and open a mobile palm-reading business. Well, that's one way to have folks lining up to give you a hand....:D

So you need to make 2 trips to the license bureau - one to take the test, and a second to get the license, once you have the clearance, yes? Not to pick on you, but if you're going to succeed as an expediter, you will have to get in the habit of eliminating unnecessary mileage, and having...

If you took it in Ohio, and the hazmat endorsement was added to your license before the background check was complete, either the rules have changed in the year since I renewed my CDL with hazmat, or the clerk at the BMV lied to me when he said I couldn't test without the clearance letter in my...

    Is this normal?

Sec 383 of the Safety Regs defines a CMV as being over 26k lbs, so if you never haul placarded hazmat, the drug screens may well be an insurance requirement. I just remember being randomly tested when driving a van for ConWay.

Jimby: Hazmat endorsements require both the fingerprint/background checks, (check hazprints.com for locations) and a written test. In Ohio, you must have the clearance letter from the background check before you will be allowed to take the written test. The timeframe varies, but I got my letter...

    Is this normal?

Nor have I - in fact, I've only been road tested in a t/t. OVM: a post accident drug test is an insurance requirement, but preemployment, random, & probable cause drug screens are mandated by the FMCSA, no?

    haz mad

I see what you're saying, Turtle, but the difference between me & the guy in the Camry is that he's hauling it for personal use, while I'm hauling it for profit, which means proper licensing & insurance to do so. And I still wouldn't haul any amount of hazmat without an endorsement, period.

    No freight!!!

I agree with everything RELENT said: the American people have been sold out for a long time, and if nothing changes, it's going to get very ugly. I rather liked Sarah Palin, until I read something that proved (in my estimation) her moral bankruptcy: she took her daughters along to events to...

    Is this normal?

That seems excessive to me, really. The carrier that I drive for requires a drug test after 30 days off, but I think that's a federal requirement, not company policy. Orientation and a road test should not be necessary after 30 days off, IMO.

Mamaduck: check the Driver Wanted ads in the EO classified ads, there're usually several for cargo vans. If no luck there, try calling recruiting for the bigger carriers (Panther, TriState, Bolt, etc) and ask whether any fleet owners have an opening in a B unit. :)

    haz mad

Geo: when it comes to placarding a Hazmat load, the weight may make a difference - but when it comes to hauling it, I wouldn't risk getting caught hauling any amount, without the endorsement on my license.

    Fast Oil Analysis

I have one done with every oil change at Speedco, and the results are ready when it's done - or are you looking for something different?

Well here we go with the first timer questions!!!

Headbanger: welcome to EO. The good news is: yes, you can drive solo in a C or D unit that you don't own, OTR, because I've been doing it for several years. I know of others who do it, and some of them are guys, too.:D The bad news is that as you've noticed, everyone prefers teams, sigh. I'd...

    Shoulder injury

Butterfly: I used to get that tension pain between the shoulderblades too, after driving long hours. I've found a great way to relieve it: place a ball (tennis, or slightly softer foam ball the same size) under your shoulder while lying on your back. Moving yourself slowly over the ball, the...

    part-time

Mike: one of the great things about being an independent contractor is the ability to take time off whenever you'd like. Naturally, you don't make any money when not accepting loads. Even if that's ok with you, you may have difficulty with a carrier - they pretty much want contractors who are...

    Ed Zachary Disease

Here's one I got today that made me laugh out loud: A teacher is reading "The Little Red Hen" to her kindergarten class, about how the little red hen runs about the farmyard declaring "The sky is falling!" When none of the animals believe her, she tells the farmer, and the teacher asks what the...

Or.....the Republican spokesperson got the same email I did, that has Jesse Jackson demanding to know why all the black folks perished in a house fire, but not the white ones.......
