Thinking of signing on with a company

No idea on the cost for an attorney to read/interpret the contract, youu'd need to call a few to ask. Geo is one member who drives for CEVA, maybe a private msg to him would get you some of the info you seek.

Hey, if King James can just make stuff up, so can the rest of us. ;)

General Info on Panther and using broker's

I don't expect correct punctuation from everyone who posts, but it'd be nice to see it from those who write signage for a business - which truckstop sells "Apple's & Banana's"? It always makes me wonder (like Turtle) apple's and banana's WHAT?! I'd apologize for hijacking the thread, but it...

We,re from the Government and we are here to HELP YOU...

I would certainly agree that the government already has way too many regulations in place to 'protect us from ourselves' (logging being a good example), and that their campaigns to enact such laws feature misleading characterizations designed to inflame the emotions of the general public (the...

We,re from the Government and we are here to HELP YOU...

I don't see the government as denying your (or my) right to bear arms, but simply ensuring that those who do are required to be law abiding citizens without severe mental impairments. Yes, it's a PITA, but so is nearly everything anymore, isn't it? (I had to pay for a license for my DOG last...

We,re from the Government and we are here to HELP YOU...

So why not become a licensed 'dealer' yourself? How hard can it be? I think your comment on the medical situation is unwarranted conjecture, frankly - the requirement for all mental health records will keep some pretty antisocial types from buying weapons, and IMO, that's a GOOD thing. We have...

We,re from the Government and we are here to HELP YOU...

My prediction is that there's gonna be a lot more licensed dealers in the near future. And it won't do a thing to stop the bad guys from stealing lawful weapons, either. Do we smell a new revenue source for the authorities in the offing, or what?

    Arctic Blast!!!

Oh, I'm enjoying it allright, but I enjoy it a lot more when I don't need to put on 17 pieces of extra clothing to sluff through the snow, worry about falling on the ice, eyes watering & nose dripping, every time I need to get out of the truck. And Col, it's ok that Kenzie doesn't speak English...

This is kind of funny, if....

I had already read both articles linked by Turtle, and believe the key phrase is "Many companies had been moving jobs offshore for decades before WalMart appeared". As the US moved from a manufacturing to a service economy, the wages dropped for entry level jobs, while the cost of living...

This is kind of funny, if....

I too would rather buy "made in America", but the sad truth is that it's too often not possible. When the profit is all that matters, the jobs go where the labor is cheapest, and the unemployed (or part time, or low wage earners) here in America are forced to buy the cheapest goods available -...

    Arctic Blast!!!

Thanks for the heads up, OVM - I'm already in Chicago, dammit, and wishing with all my heart that I could get the dog to use the indoor potty, sigh. The snow is already too deep for both of us and we're playing 'fetch' INSIDE the truck, lol.

    When do you Sleep/

Moose: that statement has EVERYTHING to do with reality - it's when we let ourselves be pushed by the 'needs' of the customer, the carrier, or anyone else who's butt isn't in the driver's seat that we get stupid, and risk our lives along with others to be on time.

    Logo on Van

When I left Panther, they charged me for "removal of decals" (don't remember how much) and all they removed were the DOT numbers - I took the other 175 pieces of vinyl off myself. To be fair, though, the charge was refunded after I complained. Their explanation was that a charge is levied...

    anyone getting loads?

Chef: your 'bad', as you put it (though why that's become such a popular use of improper wording is more than I can figure out) was in repeating something you "heard" regarding another EO member. Absolutely not cricket, old man. Because what's to stop someone from repeating some tidbit they...

    When do you Sleep/

Even without having Multiple Personality Disorder, it also varies quite a bit for just one driver: some days I feel I can go forever, and some days I feel like toast after 5 or 6. Which is why the whole concept of 'one size fits all' is just ludicrous, IMO. When I notice myself getting more...

    How long?

"I never knew life could be so much fun" - that's how I felt when I started out, and I still feel that way. I hope you do too! :) PS Terry O'Connell (aka TerryandRene) compiled a list of driver terminology, if you can find it in the archives, it would be a fun read for you. :D

    Diesel dropping faster than gas

What a sad and scary thing it is, when a business gets praise for being honest and ethical. I wouldn't run for a carrier who didn't pass 100% of the FS to whomever is paying for the fuel, and adjust the FS according to the actual cost of fuel.
