    Expedite Solo in a Hino??

The fridge is no big deal, they're not expensive or hard to replace, but the anti idling laws everywhere make the APU a necessity these days. And if you're going to spend 27 of every 30 days in the truck, it ought to be reasonably comfortable in the sleeper.

    Expedite Solo in a Hino??

"Only 400 miles a day and no long haul/multistate"? What's that about? HOS regs don't put those limits on drivers - if that's ok with you, fine, but you can do more than that. It doesn't sound like a very good deal to me. Dakota, it doesn't read like he's buying the truck, just driving it.

    Load 1 ST staying busy?

I drive a s/t for Load 1 and am happy. The culture is small town: you know everyone at HQ, nearly all the neighbors, and there is a 'home base' where you can get a shower, do laundry, wash your truck, drop off & pick up paperwork [and books, if you're a reader], and meet old friends and new ones...

They just keep forgetting that they can't STOP any faster... When I learned to drive [in Ohio], we took our cars to a big snowy parking lot and spun them out on purpose - besides being fun, it took the panic factor out of an unexpected loss of traction so we could focus on regaining...

    How's it Going at Landstar?

I've met Diane, and she's not the 'Princess' type. [That's a compliment, BTW.] Don't think you're a Rumpole, either - but I enjoy the blog. :)

"Delivering the future, 2 skids at a time"? Works for me, long as they're on my truck. :p

    August location

As another 'ex Con', I am pretty sure Turtle will find Load 1 much more like the ConWay Now that we really didn't want to leave: a good place to work, because good work is appreciated. Glad you're here. :)

A great time for it to act up is January, but you wouldn't notice it then....:p O - on topic: in Canton, Ms, waiting for people to come to work and unload my truck. :)

Well, good luck - I've been trying to get to Mi for 3 years for it! [I also have the number for one in Pa]. I didn't say FedEx offered it, [don't think it's something a carrier would have onsite - though they might work out a discount for their drivers to attend], I said FedEx has something like...

    new road atlas

When I'm away from the interstate & looking for a WalMart, I just use the "Spell name" on the GPS. [Except in Michigan, it's Meijer] :D

I don't know exactly what FedEx offers, just that it has an annual event that includes safety competitions in precision maneuvers [which Linda Caffee has won first place in]. I don't think it's training, just reinforcement - making it competitive and fun [!] to sharpen skills - I admire that...

    new road atlas

If you drive a truck, the truckers atlas is invaluable: low overpasses, info on every state [phone numbers for whatever current info you might need], different regs in each state, etc. If you drive a 4 wheeler, any atlas is good, though laminated holds up better against the inevitable spills...

How big is yours? And why do some keep touching it while driving?

I might get a slightly larger screen than the current 4" next time, but it's fine as it is. I touch it only to see which way the next turn is, as it gets closer, so I have plenty of time to be in the correct lane. And I always check the atlas for the 'big picture' before moving, so I've never...

Educating drivers hasn't been real high priority for the government [fed, state, or local]. Budget cuts removed it from high school curricula many years ago, forcing teens to use independent driving teachers [who knows what they teach?] and practice with whichever parent is willing, and who...

    Help:Looking for useful message boards..

Very good point, P, and it illustrates my sigline: the post actually offered info, and wasn't one that says "I don't have anything to say about that, but I just gotta say something anyhow". The sites that wannabes and newbies should avoid [waste of time, wrong info, whatever] is...

    True scum at it worst

Your thread title pretty much describes the use of such attention getting headlines by the media that exists to inform, but has morphed into a business that puts profit above principles. How can anyone continue to feel outraged after reading the article? Is reading comprehension that poorly...

    Ill Approves TOLL INCREASES

Interesting note in Landline, about NJ's Senate bill to "reduce tolls no longer needed for a now defunct tunnel project to link NJ and NY". Don't applaud just yet: the tolls were raised for the 'now defunct tunnel' back in 2008, when the tab for a truck went from $26.55 to $37.15 [for the full...
