    Best truck stops

I like Jubitz, but the odds of my getting back to the Pacific NW with Load 1 are slim to none, sigh. Closer to home, I like the food at the London Truckstop in Ky - the fried chicken is excellent, and the desserts and fresh fruits taste as good as they look.

    Best truck stops

Meijer's. No fuel or showers, but the food is excellent, and you'll never be kept awake by a noisy reefer cycling on & off all night long. ;)

    new record for me

Geo doesn't run expedite as we do, but I think it's great info, because it's hard to explain just how much time is lost when running the little roads through towns, and it's much more in a truck that just about gets back up to speed before stopping again. All those 'brief' stops accumulate...

    Black Grapes

what she^^ said. And: I'm adding black grapes to my calendar [I forget whatever isn't written down] along with the red navel oranges that we can only get Dec- whenever they're gone, and only in Fl, far as I know, but they're worth the trip! Jeez, India, now I feel really old: my calendar used...

    CVSA Brake Safety Week 09/09/12

That last line is what I think every time I see a weight restriction sign specifying tons - my truck is listed in pounds, why must they make me do the math? ;)

    Snow!

Since I can work, I'm picking one up in the am, so it's time for me to crash too. Hahaha, Safety, I meant sleep, ok? :p [It used to crack me up, when I drove t/t, and dispatch would call and send me somewhere in the opposite direction. I'd say "Ok, Uturning now" and they'd just FREAK out, like...

    Snow!

Yep, was me. I didn't see you, or I'd have waved. I'm waving now, instead. :o

T1000 maybe 3rd time is the charm

Oh, he has a reason/agenda - we just don't know what it is. We do know how incredibly frustrating it is to have mechanical failures keep us sidelined for days and even weeks: expenses relentlessly piling up, while income is zilch - it's enough to snap a saint. Which none of us are, far as I...

    Snow!

Course I got chains - law says I have to - but the tag on the sack they're in says "Do not remove chains from bag" and I've stuck to that for years. [Ever since I delivered to Aspen, Co, for the X Games - that was enough snow to last me for another 6 or 7 years yet, lol.] Seriously: last...

    Stupid Road Signs

You didn't ask for it, but here's an Amen! I lived in Houston for 2 years, and got hit 5 times, and 4 of them hauled their donkey outta there before I quite knew what happened.

    Stupid Road Signs

It's not confusing if you've driven in Detroit - I know I've spent too much time there when I forget that sometimes, one can turn left from the left lane. ;)

    Stupid Road Signs

21: we used to have a member called Dieselphreak, and that Diesel Fried Chicken sign always reminded me of him, so I posted it once and told him they were saving him some, lol. :p Jimby: today I saw one posted on the corner of Telegraph & Ecorse [I think] that says "No Motor Vehicles" so I'm...

Can You Quantify EOBR $$$ Benefits?

On this one, I agree - the question is: what's causing the distractions? FMCSA has focused their attention on cellphones, while totally ignoring the #1 distraction commercial drivers are forced to deal with: looking for an address/gate/sign/customer provided company name, etc. While I'm looking...

Can You Quantify EOBR $$$ Benefits?

Ray Lahood's proclamation that "fatigue is a leading cause of crashes" is 100% contradicted by DOT's own website, which states "Fatigue was a factor in 1.4% of all fatal accidents last year." A FACTOR, meaning it was present, not that it was a cause, even!!! The last CVSA Safety check showed...

Child neglect, abuse, or what ?

In his wonderful book "A Walk in the Woods", Bill Bryson mentions reading about bear attacks, and one that gave ME nightmares [Bryson was just "saucer eyed", lol] was when the parents smeared a toddler's hand with honey for a bear to lick off. It's too bad they could replace the toddler's...

    Need help please! 28cplm????

Maverick: could you elaborate on the 'break downs right & left' comment? Every truck breaks down, [this one was in the shop for 3 days the other week, getting 2 fuel injectors replaced], but a whole lot of downtime is a red flag: it's a crummy truck, or it's not maintained properly. Also...
