I use hulu every time I am laid over near a large city that has a good signal and I can wrestle the laptop away from my wife. Baltimore area is the fastest for me. No buffer time. We are looking at going to a 2 laptop system with a mifi connection.

    The real world didn't End!

Sounds like a great vacation. I was off for two weeks and all I got to do was mow 7 acres twice and have a tooth pulled.

    Qualcomm Charges

We have 2 GPS' and the ability to scan and print. From what I have heard the GPS in the Quallcom is very slow at recalculating routes and I have yet to meet a solo who likes electronic logging. With all of the modern electronics out there and text messaging isn't there some way that all info...

FedEx Custom Critical vs Panther Expedited

I wish you good luck on your new career. Keep asking questions on here. Pay attention in orientation. Buy a good GPS. (We like our Garmin) Always show up a little early for pick ups. Always be clean, presentable, courteous, polite and ontime. And most importantly, be safe.

    How it should be.

The people of this country have a tremendous amount of power and ability to get things done. Without the governments help. Maybe someday we will once again elect a strong leader. What happened to the men like Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR, and Eisenhower? This country only seems to want to elect...

FedEx Custom Critical vs Panther Expedited

When I first read the title to this post I thought it was about a competition. Maybe a cross country race or something. Anyway, here is my opinon based on my experience. When we first started we did the 40/60 split. No money out of our pocket into the fuel tanks to get started, no fuel costs...

What did you do before you started in Expediting.

I owned a window and hurricane shutter business in Cocoa, FL. Due to the wonderful economy and the lack of new home construction the business had to be shut down after 23 years of sucessful operation.:(

    THE DCAs OF EXPEDITING

I don't know if this would be considered cherry picking, but I will no longer take any runs that take me into an area where I know I will be sitting for 5 days waiting to get out, unless the load pays enough for me to get back to an active express center. It is a poor business decision to take...

    Best ST box size??

Does anyone use a flatbed with a rolling tarp or curtainside for expediting? On the subject of cabovers. There is at least one in the FedEx CC fleet. It is a 2003 Argosy painted red. It has the factory sleeper and an add on sleeper. I have not figured out how he tilts the cab with the add on...

    Campgrounds and CMV's

Does anyone use campgrounds for layovers? Are commercial motor vehicles allowed in them? I thought it might be nice to try and find one that has a lake for fishing and swimming and some BBQ grills and picnic tables. It would be a whole lot nicer than sitting in a truckstop all weekend.

    1.20 /mile expedite freight

Agreed. I don't think anyone should run cheaper because they don't have a truck payment. It just looks really nice after all the bills are paid to see the money going back into the savings account and not out to a finance company.

    1.20 /mile expedite freight

Thats a great idea if you have good credit. For those of us that lost everything in the Great Recession, including our credit, the only choice is cash.

    1.20 /mile expedite freight

I agree that the cost should be factored in. But since mine is paid for I do not include it as an operating expense, rather I consider it an asset of the business. To me the bottom line is how much did I make minus how much did I spend doing it. What's left over is mine and Uncle Sam's. I do...

    1.20 /mile expedite freight

All that extra stuff gives you a better chance of staying loaded, especially out of slow areas. The pay is much higher and if you stay busy mile for mile you will make more money even with the added expenses, maintenance and start up costs. The customers demand a higher level of service and...
