I wouldn't be saying that too loud till after the storms blow through.

    16' box truck, door opening/deck height? comfort/c

Ouch! I know of a couple straight trucks that can compete with that fuel mileage. Of course, we have to log though. One thing, I would look at for sure is changing the gears to 3:42. From the comments I've seen on here, that would probably get you a good 2-4mpg gain. It would probably be well...

    Solar powered Auto Air Conditioning

The capacity problem that I see is generating enough electricity. Those panels in the links above are lightweight and I don't see any aero problems to speak of, but I'm pretty sure that Turtle can blast holes in their ability to keep a system running. I think the only thing you could do to have...

    Solar powered Auto Air Conditioning

Here is something to look at. Expensive though and would probably have to use the roof on a ST box to get enough to do any good. There is quite a bit of this stuff out there if you want to search for it. Extended-Villager-8-Solar-Top | Peel and Stick Solar Energy Stick-It! Solar...

Vicious Storm; Are All Expediters Well?

I followed it across I-40 Friday night. When I would get close enough to start seeing lightening and get a little rain, I would stop for a while. Luckily, the load had just enough time on it that I was able to kill about 3 hours stalling and still deliver on time in Spartanburg Sat morning. It...

    1st 5,000 miles

That's great. I wish somebody would install one of those gear vendors units so I could learn something at somebody else's expense...lol ! :)

    1st 5,000 miles

Hey Chef, wouldn't it be wise to talk to the aux trans. folks and see if the 3:42 ratio is the best choice to use with their product? Your probably well ahead of me here, I'm just thinking that if the 4:11 ratio is better suited, then maybe you would be better off to just go ahead with the aux...

    Wheels

OUCH! Actually, I'm not so sure that the rolling resistance effects our straight trucks as much as it does a t/t, but you can find reasonably priced tires with a decently low rolling resistance. The Michelins are probably the best by far, but the Bridgestone M720 and the Continental HDL-A are...

    Advice needed

Second thought...you should post the numbers your coming up with. Let the van guys here look at 'em. They can tell you if your numbers off and where.

    Advice needed

Some of the van operators will chime in with specifics, but I think you should be able to get by on .50/mile for expenses and probably .40/mile. Those numbers would give you $1.20/mile gross. Minus .50/mile gives you .70/mile for 1000 miles a week. You should be able to scrape $700/week out...

    Love's fuel desks

I fixed the problems I was having with Pilot/Flying J and Loves. I joined NASTC in order to get their fuel discounts and now I fuel at Petro/TA. I seldom have any issues. You do have to be careful of some of the older TA's when it comes to showers though. Getting fuel hasn't been a problem at all.

    Chef Dennis's New CargoMax

My point being that I don't see it as a safety issue that chef's rollup door doesn't open from the inside...with or without the side doors. I doubt there are many vans (including yours) that have a larger sleeper than the "smaller" 72in that I have. I'm thinking that if I need out of my...

    Chef Dennis's New CargoMax

The one I'm sitting in right now has a vent (app 4"x7") on each side. I can assure you that many, many truck sleepers have nothing more. The sleepers with a window or a door are the minority from what I see.

    Chef Dennis's New CargoMax

Chef, the rollup door looks good in the pics, but I just wonder if it makes any noise? That would be my biggest concern with a rollup door in a van. After it gets some miles on it, I would be afraid of it getting noisy. I also wonder about how well it seals the air out? I wonder if it's...

    Chef Dennis's New CargoMax

The sleepers on most trucks don't have any access other than the driver and passenger doors. I don't see any difference here.

    Wheels

I'm thinkin a long, looooong time. You should weigh the wheels, the steel will obviously be heavier, but i doubt it will be as much as you think. You might be able to find some wheels for sale on the net and compare the shipping weights for an easy estimate. I once had a t/t truck that I was...
