Is It Really True That Truckers Can't Agree? Let's Try.

It could be posted on another site. This is more of an exercise of ideas that currently haven't been tried. That is pretty much how anything worth while gets started. Some ideas may be good or bad, but we do know the current results of what has been tried. Nothing more complicated than that.

Is It Really True That Truckers Can't Agree? Let's Try.

You answered your own question. "It has been thirty years" and nothing has happened. There is no part of changing something in this industry that would go quick. I don't believe anyone has that illusion.

He also said "(maybe three)" That is the typical period of time to drive a truck via the community college route. I believe he is looking at a much broader long term picture. It has little to do with "old timers".

No one is really advocating more regulations per se. But if they are to come in some form or fashion anyway, then would you not want them written to the industry's benefit? I should add, after reading through this, I think the goals are actually pretty close. I'm not seeing a huge disagreement.

The function of government is not to write laws and then eliminate them. They exist only to write new laws. Look at all the ones we have now. They have to keep writing new ones to justify their existence. Because of that, if new ones are going to inevitably written, better to have them where we...

Probably just human nature. I don't think any party has a lock on it other than how the media portrays something.

No doubt it will take a delicate approach. ATA and OOIDA have done some good things as an example, but alot of things certainly have went beyond their reach. There will be or possibly be unintended consequences, that is the reason to keep the primary objective as simple as possible.

Andrea Mitchell from NBC thought he was attractive. Don't think it was an endorsement of any kind.

True but in todays world of politics and quick news, it would seem you really need the money and or the numbers(people).

Very true. It certainly doesn't need to be all. I don't think that will happen. You are on the right track though. Very delicate balance to ensure success. Ok....."safety for truckers"

You have Ted Cruz who I wouldn't find attractive but apparently "brainy" because as a new guy, that is all the democrats seem to talk about.

Whatever is pursued, it must be easily understood and have the support of all sides. Anything that is just for part of the industry, will be an uphill battle. I like the detention idea, but that will garner little support from the LTL or union outfits because they get compensated already for it...

Very limited. You would be looking at some type of regulation/legislation or union. The path would likely be close to the airline industry. Not a fan of either but my opinion is that is what we would be looking at. Much of it would require the lobbying efforts and financial backing to make the...

Is It Really True That Truckers Can't Agree? Let's Try.

As a component to a few others I think it could be. OOIDA has been a advocate for this for some time. I would support it but am mindful that many of the bargain haulers that run recruits through like cattle would fight it. Not a fan of regulation but that is what it would take to implement...
