The Sinking Of The Titantic - FDCC

I've heard Landstar is a good company and has good rates. But, I have also heard that it takes time to build relationships with the brokers and that they will use a contractor known to them before a newbie. (A form of preferential dispatch.) I guess all companies have there good and bad points...

I agree. Just wanted to point out the difference for other readers.

    How low can they go

I think it is wrong to take a truck off a load once it has been dispatched. It seems to me a contract has been made with the offer and acceptance. Money could have been exchanged if the driver had taken an advance as soon as he was dispatched. There is a difference between a dedicated driver...

Do straight truck have to keep a log book

I'm still waiting on an answer about having a CDL. I don't see how you could pass the exam without knowing the rules on logging and scaling.

$1 looks to be working out....

The $1 flat rate is for C and D trucks. $1 plus FSC all miles. CV's get $.85 + FSC for loaded miles. C, D and E trucks can either be percentage based or flat rate based.

    How will this truck work?

The other reason for the hydraulic brakes is his wife does not have a CDL or air brake endorsement. All he does is run for his brothers company under there authority. Any ideas on fuel mileage and how it will pull the mountains? Truck has been ordered and will be built in about 6 weeks.

Van Pay. Whats a good number per mile?

Vans at FedEx are on a fixed rate. The all miles rate will vary due to percentage of deadhead. I have seen D truck opps as low as $.49 all miles.

Do straight truck have to keep a log book

Not trying to be a smarta$$. Is your trucks GVWR over 26,000 pounds? Do you have a CDL B? It seems if you passed the CDL exam you would know the answers to these questions.

    AC question

This may not make sense but on ours if the temp control knob (colder/warmer knob) is turned all the way to the left it blows out warm. Turn it three clicks to the right and it will freeze you out.

    pets on road

As long as you are not WG you can. But dispatch needs to know so they won't send you to a facility that doesn't allow dogs.

    Complete Newbie

He did say he sat for 5 days waiting for the first load. I would bet that's where his fuel money went and he would have had enough for fuel had he not been left sitting.

MBE 4000 Head Gasket Replacement cost?

Got the leaks fixed. Three of them. The valve at the water filter was replaced. The upper radiator hose had a pin hole and the coolant line that runs just above the heads had a pin hole. Also got the fuel gauge fixed, it needed a new sending unit. And they steam cleaned the engine. Total cost...

    What gives?

Today's rate in the ad here on EO is $1.70. I think that's $1.25 plus FSC.

    Re: An Injustice Averted

I agree with layout that it is up to each contractor to run his business as he sees fit. What is an acceptable rate for me is not acceptable for all. That's the great thing about an open forum where everyone can express there opinion.

    Re: An Injustice Averted

Anyone who pays a lot of money for a truck is doing it by choice. Carriers are not going to pay more because someone wanted an expensive show truck or RV with a cargo box. Of course they will and should pay more for a reefer, lift gate, etc. Our $28,000 dollar truck earns us the same rate per...

    Re: An Injustice Averted

We value our time too. Sitting in a truck stop for days waiting for a load is not our idea of using our time wisely. If we can go out and run 13000 miles in 21 days and then take a week off we are much happier than running 10000 miles in 30 days at a higher rate. Bills and expenses still come...

    Sorry no good ............!

If that idiot used his All in One or a fuel card the TA should be able to tell who it was that used that pump before you. Then you could take appropriate action.
