    The Tea Party Strikes Again.

Pilgrim: since when are ratings the barometer of quality? If memory serves, "Jersey Shore" got sky high ratings, and "Keeping Up With The Kardashions" does pretty well too, I hear, lol.

Me too, those Quebecois can be really irritating, lol. ;)

If you're a male [or lesbian], I guess. But they don't tend to mix on the pages of sites devoted to one or the other.

No, it's not like buying a private plane and not learning to fly it, because then, one can't use it. Without hiring a pilot, of course. One can, however, buy a weapon and figure out how it works without any instruction at all. And there are many who do just that.

By "those who take journalism seriously", I mean, of course, those who are interested in facts & truth, not "hot bodies/babes/bikinis".

There have been many, but the prestigious awards are the National Magazine Awards, which are the magazine journalism equivalent of the Pulitzer. MoJo has been nominated 27 times, and won 6. That kind of cred is impeccable, in the eyes of those who take journalism seriously.

    The Tea Party Strikes Again.

Jon Stewart has twice won the Peabody Award [for distinguished & meritorious public service], which is based upon excellence, rather than popularity or commercial success. According to Wiki, the judging is "unusually rigorous", and Stewart has won twice. Did I mention it's for "distinguished and...

One more thing about the Daily Caller: when the slideshows & "hot topics" consist entirely of variations on "hot women/bodies/bikinis", I consider that a mark against serious journalistic credibility. Just sayin.....

Regarding the credibility of Mother Jones: the site/team has won a great many prestigious awards for excellence in investigative journalism. The Daily Caller [a conservative news & opinion site] has been kown to publish unsubstantiated allegations [against Senator Bob Menendez] that reputable...

Pilgrim: I got the impression the wife thought Wilcox should have been running for cover instead of attempting to end the threat, rather than as a preliminary step. I could be wrong, though, lol. PS I think the problem is people who spend the money to buy a weapon, take whatever classes are...

It was the realization that he would probably have done the same thing as Miller [approach an armed threat] and been shot by an accomplice he hadn't seen, that got him thinking about the wisdom of carrying a weapon to protect himself. Because he's right: if you have a weapon, you will probably...

    More Government ................

Link is bad. I read a bit of a story in the Wall Street Journal [couldn't read it all, not a subscriber] about 2300 docs who billed Medicare for cardiac procedures that cost north of $500,00. Each. And the kicker is that not one of the docs was/is a cardiologist.

Nowhere in the article does the author say, or even imply, that carrying [concealed or openly] is stupid - that's your [mis] interpretation. What he said is that it got Miller shot, and that it could happen to him, or anyone who carries a weapon, and that is the simple truth. It's what you...

    Financial Budget vs meal planning

Linder, it might be easier if you wait until cold weather to try it, because summer is when there's so much fresh stuff available [farmer's market, roadside], and you want to grab it when it's in season and the opportunity pops up. [This week, it's cherries - I swear, they're like crack, lol]...

If this is gong to be a Christian nation...

I believe you're making my point: it's all about cheap labor. I'm a firm believer in capitalism - but left to itself [unregulated], it tends to get warped. CEOs are an example: given the privilege of declaring their own 'worth', [and everyone else's, in their own area], they abused it. Just a...

"I never used the word liberal." That's funny, right there. Say "Dumber than dirt liberal morons" to any EO member who reads the Soapbox, and whose name pops into their head? Contrary to your assertions, we do need liberal ideas. And we need conservative, and independent, and progressive - we...
