    No MATS

Interesting..... One wonders is it because they have no new product? Their new engines aren't ready? They don't want to listen to all the *****in about CAT getting out of the game (PACCAR was the big CAT user after all). I do agree MATS isn't the big selling show it used to be. Manufacturers...

    Engine fan air clutch

While the dealerships conduct was lousy, It also pays to pay attention to your truck. Look over any recent repairs (maybe you would have seen the line off). At some point you should have heard the air leak, even that little 1/4 inch air line if it was off would have made a fair noise and...

DPF Filter less than 10% filled!

A DPF should last well beyond 100,000 miles as long as the correct engine oil is used as well as Ultra Low Sulfur diesel. If I had a dealer tell me my DPF was "full" at less than 150,000 miles I'd be screaming for a warranty adjustment. For you big truck folks, your DPF should last at least...

new engine or new used van???

Is anything else wrong with the engine? 1/8 of an inch of crank endplay is quite odd especially on an engine connected to an automatic. 1/8 is 125 thou, that's huge, it should be either clattering like hell or have lousy oil pressure (or both). Did you see them measure the 1/8th ? Either way...

    strange alarm sound

My thoughts are it is the transmission getting itself happy (ready) for start up. It could be the process that is running the X and Y shift motors to position for neutral. I've never fully traced the noise but the first time I heard it I was under the cab of an M2 with an autoshift. When you're...

    need tires

I know they have a shop in South Bend IN (those are the folks I talk to), a warehouse or 2 in other places (1 in Georgia that I know of for sure) and a whole host of approved installers all over the country. I'd say if ya can't get to Indiana to have them put them on you could always get them...

    When do you Sleep/

Motels depend on where I am and how long the trip was. If I have just done a long strait thru (1200 miles +) I will get a hotel if it's cheap. A $10 shower at the J is good but if I can get a $30 Motel 6 and have a couple of showers, stretch out, use their A/C or heat. I will. The sleep is better...

    need tires

I'm glad you are impressed, I wish I had that brain space to remember things like..........oh....my wife's birthday. It would seem to keep me out of more trouble. However those CW McCall 8 tracks sure do keep me company when I do get banished to the garage. Do ya remember Black Bear road?

    A real newbie

Congrats Cheri! That is so cool that you got a rescue dog. Many happy miles to you both!! From Moot: "Don't let Cheri make you do all of the pre trip inspections, rear door openings and fueling just because you're a newbie." Cheri if you can get the dog to do any of the above I'll pay you...

    Feedback needed for Sprinter

Rob has a good point, Das tranzmission kool....das tranzmission happy. The Sprinter box spends a lot of time with the torque converter un-locked (creating torque) and thus generates a lot of heat. The NAG-1 transmission is actually able to take a lot more horsepower and torque than what our...

    What Do You Listen To?

XM, I'd be pretty grumpy if I had to listen to local FM. O&A most mornings and Ron&Fez. I'll leave CNBC on as background noise if I'm in and out. Listen to Kevin when I can and might leave 171 on through the night.

    Flying J Files Bankruptcy

On their website a few stations are listed as "Supply Low" or "Supply Critical". Have not heard of any big refining outages (dunno if theirs is running). I did notice the J in London ON has had the pumps out front re-branded as Shell (much like Ashtabula OH or like the Conoco branding).
