Got a nice CSX run from Selkirk, NY to Cincinnati. Picked up late last night and pulled an all nighter and delivered at lunch time today. I've been home sleeping since then.

    New York ideas please.

Service plazas on the New Jersey Turnpike, a couple Wal Mart stores out on Long Island...take your pick. If you head west on 78 toward PA, there is a TA and a Pilot almost at the PA state line and there's a Pilot in Milford, CT. None of those truck stops are exactly close. The one in CT will...

    Two Questions (Could be controversial)

I don't think it's fair that I didn't get awarded the last three loads I bid on. I want my compensation.

    Two Questions (Could be controversial)

How does a carrier be more competitive? When you bid a load at a flat $1 a mile, all included, and you miss out on the load because some other company is bidding at .60 a mile just to get the driver a load home or to relocate that truck, how are you supposed to compete with that? Exactly how...

    Two Questions (Could be controversial)

Before you claim poor bidding practices by carriers, try being a carrier for a while and placing bid after bid only to lose the loads to some cheapskate companies that are willing to run expedite loads at LTL rates. That's what the poor bidding practices are, people going way too cheap. You...

I can't remember the last time I spent any time at the Detroiter. I just go to that TA in Monroe. You can get to Toledo fast and back to Detroit if you need to.

    How picky are vans?

I'm not too worried about that right now. I think most people are smart enough to know that I can't offer that rate on every van load. Getting a high bid like that for a van load in the south these days is as much luck as anything else.

At a Wal Mart in Biddeford, ME. I'm thinking about heading down to the TA in Greenland, NH. Anyone even remotely close?

    EO 10 year's

I don't think anyone told me about this place. I just stumbled across it doing some research online when I was deciding about getting into the industry. There are probably quite a few people who end up here that way these days.

    How picky are vans?

I find one thing interesting and that's that a lot of people automatically assume a deadhead out of Florida, but lately I've been seeing freight out of there. Not much, but there are loads out of that area and because of the people who either refuse to go there or just drop and deadhead out...

    EO 10 year's

Two counts of blatant misuse of an apostrophe in a non possessive plural word. Since the offender has been on EO for ten years, the sentence will be commuted to time served and three months probation. :)

How do I know if i should do the load

I think I operate a little differently as an independent, but the same basic principles still apply. I know my cost per mile, so I know how much a load needs to pay me in order to be profitable. When I am bidding, I take into account two things. How much does the driver need to make and how...

    How picky are vans?

Let me throw this out there to all you van drivers in light of the rates people have been seeing for van loads lately. Here's the scenario. You're sitting in the Atlanta area. You get offered a load picking up about 15 minutes away from where you are sitting going to Orlando, 460 loaded...

The thread that can't be hijacked

Since cats always land on their feet, and a slice of buttered toast always lands butter side down when you drop it, what would happen if you strapped a slice of buttered toast onto a cat's back, butter side facing up, and dropped the cat? Would the two forces cancel each other out, causing...

    where to look

I wonder why they call it a green card when it's not green. My wife has had her green card for a few years now and is studying for naturalization. I can't wait. I think I'm as excited as she is.

What some people forget is that a degree from the University of Michigan, if kept in your glove box, will also allow you to park in handicapped spots and you don't have to display it in the window.
