    Who Locked The Panther Thread?

I agree... 59 posts means it's time to move on. Especially when the original meaning of the thread was lost after 5 posts.

    Express 1

Simon... I didn't say their safety department was non-existant, I said they weren't constrictive. They aren't going to nitpick you to death over a toll booth reciept that shows you driving at 9:50 when your log says you stopped at 9:45. They won't let you run over hours (at least they wouldn't...

    Express 1

I drove with Express-1 as a team and single. We got more miles as a team; but with having to pay my co-driver 20%, I did better as a solo driver. The bad: When they got us longer loads, we deadheaded back to the freight zone more than half the time. Personally, I believe they rely too much on...

    No bid Hurrican contracts

Simon... it costs money to prep stuff, even if it isn't used. There were a ton of trucks in FL last year for hurricane relief. Alot of them never moved, yet they got paid BIGTIME!!! It's all the cost of a disaster... better having too much relief than not enough. Not that it helped, as Bush...

    ROFLMAO!!!!! :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 That was the best post I've read in a long time! And what makes it funnier is that's it's a true story! :7 :7 :7

    Dumb independent expediter question

Greg... you should've written down those websites x( It's possible, that with enough contacts you could run a van independantly. However, like I said in a previous post, you'll spend your off time finding loads. I don't know about $1.50/mi, but it is higher than the normal company rates. And...

With the rising price of fuel....

My dad just picked me up a small Coleman propane heater. It runs on a small camping cannister(around $2), lasts 20 hours, and is 1000 BTUs. It says it only needs 3" of outside air for exhaust. No flame is involved. That and a sleeping bag, and you have a cheap, efficiently warm winter.

    GPS

I haven't had the need for a gps yet. I go on mapquest and write down the directions. I do have delorme, however the computer being open is impractical while driving this truck.

To Get Back In Or Not?

To put it bluntly, the pay is less and the overhead more. There is still a lot of opportunity to bring in the bux, if you play your cards right. Your best bet is to get a class 8 straight truck. Look up the posts from here, and you'll get a lot of info on them. If you want to be daring, get a...

    Bidding on Loads

Sure... you could try to milk a turnip, too... doesn't mean you'll get anything out of them. ;) I don't bid on junk loads. I bid expedite freight, air freight, and the occasional LTL if appropriate. I make more per mile, but like I said, I sit... and sit... and sit. This works out for me...

    Just a comment

Broom... I felt the exact same way. Even going out for a week or two, I hated to say goodbye to my daughter (especially when she cried) :'( Now, I take a run (usually 500 or less), then start looking for something heading home. I've been getting home at least twice a week for the last couple...

is it really that slow out here ?????

I hear ya, Dave. I've been in that "misery loves company" attitude before also. Just trying to help him look at different angles. I'll never understand why some drivers don't like to share which company they drive for. It's not like an influx of ppl will suddenly take away their freight. ;)

    Bidding on Loads

You don't bid on loads if you drive for an expediting company. You may, to find an LTL load for backhaul purposes. But only a couple of companies allow you to do that. Panther, being in the forefront, as they only charge 15% and give you little grief. What I do, is run under someone else's...

is it really that slow out here ?????

Knowing which company you run for is on topic. Someone who has, or does, drive for them can probably tell you where their freight is. You asked if it's slow, maybe your company doesn't have alot of freight in Detroit. Then again, if you want to keep secrets, you can't expect anyone to help you...

is it really that slow out here ?????

It does matter, cause if there's an abundance of trucks in an area, only so many are moving. I live near Detroit, and I've deadheaded out to get loaded. The amount of incoming freight is higher than outgoing, usually. I did see a ton of t/ts needed out of Detroit at one time, as well as some...

    LDB

All I said was that I can see using two logbooks... as in a team that can only drive 5 hours at a time without getting tired. Don't worry, Leo... we don't want you to lose your office and money ;) I know that a responsibility like this takes time to get used to.

is it really that slow out here ?????

How long have you been sitting in Detroit? If you're there more than a day, start heading west or south. I've learned with Panther that Battle Creek is a good area, cause not many sit there. If you go south, anywhere in Ohio is good. Who are you driving for now, by the way?

is it really that slow out here ?????

You're gripin about sitting again??? LOL Sometimes I go 2 days without a load. By the end of the first I'm telling myself, "Dayam I wish I woulda bid less on that load!" But I can't gripe too much. If I hafta dh, my last load covered it. I waited in NC on Thurs and Fri a couple weeks ago. Bid...

    Misdemeanor conviction

You can't count on the companies to give you the straight scoop on an issue like this, as it's not in their control. Canada seems to take each case individually. The only way to know for sure is contact Canadian immigrations.
