This topic was about GM not health care or the lack of it so lets try to keep it on track.

    GM layoffs

The July issue of Smart money magazine had a article about the demise of GM. It bascially started in thr 50's when GM had a huge market share and started captiulating to the UAW so as to avoid a strike. Every few years the contract talks would come up and GM would give more and more benefits...

    Just thinking out loud

Pay for a motel room once a week. I know of 2 guys who run for an owner. They split 45%,lead driver gets 25%,co gets 20%. But the owner pays for everything including one reasonable meal a day and one reasonable motel room each week. Give your drivers some time off with pay based on their yearly...

    Happy Thanksgiving to all

Best to you Greg, enjoyed talking to you 2 weeks ago and hope your trip went well. I made it home from Memphis and am presently hiding from the wife who is finding things for me to do in the kitchen. We have friends and neighbors coming over and should have a pleasant day. BTW a very pleasant 75...

    Fedex Pfizer load Hi-Jacked

Also since the driver admitted to leaving the truck running the insurance company may decline to pay due to driver negilence. Fedex insures cargo for 50K, then their insurance company takes over, the customer must then declare a value and pay a premium for additional coverage. This one should...

    Good advice to fledgling newbies.

One just needs to consider the source behind the $3.00 per mile.

    Fedex Pfizer load Hi-Jacked

Dave The freight deductible is up to $2500 now. I also agree with BP about idleing for at least 10 minutes when coming off the highway. Your turbo has been spinning at zillions of rpm and needs to cool down. What would be interesting is to know if the driver was a O/O or a driver for a O/O...

Outfitting a truck for the road

Heater Meals can come in handy.a 12 volt stove, catayltlic heater for the winter, several flashlights,a portable AM/FM/SW radio ,duct tape, spare bulbs for all lights, spare relays fuses, heavy duty jumper cables and if you have room get a used tire that fits your rims. Buying a tire on the side of...

    Fedex Pfizer load Hi-Jacked

Last week I refused a Pfizer load out of Memphis due to the recent events and Pfizer stating that one driver must always be in the cab and you must drive 300 miles before stopping. Well I was running single and don't think I should have even been offered the trip. The notes also stated that you...

    Expediting comes to XM

    Good advice to fledgling newbies.

Good advice Prof,we have all been there. Best to take your time and never let the shipper push you out the door.. My other half is certainly guilty of the audio book situation that Cherri described, more then once.

    Single or dual rear axle

One thing to remember is with a 2 axle rear you get to buy 8 rear tires not 4. You mentioned you were looking at a FL 70 with a 7 speed transmission. sounds like the Spicer 7 speed, many horror stories exist about that transmission and Freightliner discontinued putting it into new trucks.

    Spec'ing the Expedite Truck

George is correct, make sure you find someone who knows what they are doing and can give references. It's your money that is going into the truck and a poorly speced truck can haunt you for many years.

    Satellite radio

The receivers are not compatabile. I have had XM for 3 years now and don't know how I managed to get along without it. I also have it at home. I think if you took a poll most truckers have XM,nothing wrong with Sirrus but XM does have a pure trucking and road channel.

    Maximum GVWR

GVW rules are covered under section 395 in the FMSR handbook. If you look at the drivers guide to the FMCSR on page 274 relating to Part 395 HOS Rules,it tells you that vehicles that have a GVW or GCW over 10,001 pounds must log.

    Experiance Requirements for D-Unit

That used to be the rule, you had to demonstrate a track record of one year before you could be qualified for W/Glove. Unfortunately that requirement seems to have gone away. There is a member of EO who had absolutely zero experience in driving but he managed to get himself and his wife into...

    Clueless...need help!!

Just plain curious. Why do you desperately want to start a 15 unit trucking operation. Are you aware of the legalities and costs of insurance, driver problems,DOT rules and so on. It is not an easy task to have a small trucking company because the big boys,Yellow,ABF SouthEast can pick up freight...
