What I am saying is legally you cannot take the mileage as a write off being a "for hire" truck. If you are classifying yourself as "not for hire" and you get caught you could have a problem.

The only way that is possible, honestly at least, is to file as a "not for hire" truck and take the mileage write off. If you are filing honestly as a "for hire" truck it is not likely you have enough write offs to zero out.... Unless, that is, you are driving less and making less :(

That is exactly what will happen. The rates WILL rise as fewer trucks qualify and o/o's with the older obsolete (cali anyhow) trucks do other things... Well, bottom feeders carry that moniker for a reason. They will find a way in if they can get away with it...

There used to be a guy from Arkansas who drove an old short bus.. He was on with Panther 5 or 6 years ago. It was in pretty rough shape when I saw it. I suspect the mileage would not be conducive to turning a profit.
