Re: Sprinter and the backyard mechanic

Yes...2 different blends. The "Euro" blend you have will foul the DPF (still on a 2010). Proper 0W40 is Mobil ESP. 07 and up all use the same oil. Basically if it doesn't say MB229.51 on the bottle, she's a no good!

    Canada Ambassador Bridge De-construction?

We need another bridge, period. The current state of the Ambassador bridge under the current neglectful ownership is proof. When they finally do re-deck it (and that's very soon) and it is down to 2 lanes, what is the alternative? The new bridge is a Public / Private partnership with the state...

2010 Sprinter Stats through the first 10,000 Miles

TJ...and anyone else with an 07 up, This procedure works on vans without the steering wheel buttons/upgraded dash. 1. Put the key in the ignition and switch it on without starting the engine. 2. The ASSYST mileage will show, when the mileage shown returns to the vehicle mileage, hold the O...

Re: Sprinter and the backyard mechanic

OVM...the 2010 diesel still requires a MB229.51 oil. The 0W40 commonly available is not approved. It must be Mobil 1 ESP 0W40 to be approved. Have not run across it yet at retail. Greg, the driveshaft is just the way it is, a component designed to speed the assembly process and live long enough...

Re: Sprinter and the backyard mechanic

The biggest pain is the aftermarket has not caught up with parts availability yet. This is exaggerated as the new vans (like a lot of new stuff) have a lot of parts that you cannot service or maintain...you just replace. Need Ball Joints? Buy a whole control arm ($4-600 each) Wheel Bearings...

Great comments.....try owning a 2007 and up. The economical advantage gets a lot slimmer.

    April 2010 locations

I'm surprised they lasted.....it is a known weakness that resulted in a redesign/update. Unfortunately the redesign is not backwards compatible as it requires a different shaft. When the rear half of my driveshaft was replaced, I got the updated bearing for that part..my front shaft is still the...

    Best ST box size??

Ask yourself this question, what generates more revenue 1) a 1/2 filled box running down the road 2) you sitting because you are too small to haul the load Bunks are important...you live there and it becomes home, but in todays competitive environment, I would want all the flexibility I could...

Syracuse NY...and it has snowed on and off most of the afternoon. Ugh...I hate this place. If fuel wasn't the bargain price of $3.30 /gal I would have departed for the Great White North long ago, where, my wife tells me it is sunny and 50 degrees.

    Van inspections

And at 13 k miles mistakes at the assembly plant may just be starting to rear their ugly head. If I tell FedEx it's safe, I want to know it truly is. I do the inspections my self AND then take it someplace (FedEx will not let me sign my own safeties). An extra $60 a year on inspections (the $65...

    Van inspections

In 15 minutes you did not get an inspection....you got a signature and a piece of paper. If everything applicable to vans is checked properly on the FedEx sheet, it takes a minimum of 30 minutes, the vehicle needs to be jacked up or put on a hoist. As a licensed mechanic, when I do the...

    Recruiting Ad

Agreed. If a potential new recruit was to come up to you at a truck stop and ask about these types of things....and our response is we don't know anything about them...does not leave a very good impression of the company on the potential recruit.
