I debated a lot about getting out before winter. I've seen my share of what you describe, and I shudder to think about it happening in a t/t. My 6 months comes in October. I can find something local, or wait until spring to start up again. But I have a few goals that call for me to stick it out...

Good GOD, man! You're Methuselah! o_O Eventually, I plan on moving back down to a 36-40' trailer. Not too many understand why. "Cause I feel like it" is good enough a reason, but I have a tactical one as well. But with the talk of going up to 60', when we can't make a city turn in a 53' without...

The family went to the Oakland County Fair a couple months back. That started a love affair with carny rides, that my daughter and I got to expand upon at Michigan Adventure last month. If you've never gone on the Ripcord, I recommend it. What a RUSH!!! :woot::arghh::nailbiting:

Take your time, do your homework. Check out thetruckersreport.com to get some insight, and find a company that'll work for you, as well as you working for it. The reason those big ugly companies get so many rookies is due to them not doing their homework. I've heard Maverick is a fine company...

Big Truck Question for semi owners...

Just giving my experience. What you're saying would have to be done by one squared away owner. Haven't met many of them.

Big Truck Question for semi owners...

Leasing a vehicle to an operator on paper doesn't necessarily put the driver in the independent status. I tried to wrap my head around this, while in my last independent driving gig. How can a driver be leasing a truck, yet the owner pay for fuel? tell which t/s chain to use? where to get the...

Made some scotch bonnet sauce last week... More like a relish. Has pear and pineapple, garlic and onion, and some spices in it. Man, is it good on hot dogs!

Friday night - SC to TX. Dropped this morning. Today - TX to IA (2 drops) for Wed. Sitting in KS tonight. Wed - IA back to TX for Fri. Slower than I'd like. I can drop tomorrow, but still have to wait til Wed to load. Even then, this will be at least a 2600 mi week.

Big Truck Mickey Mouse and Driver Shortages

Exactly. It's a shortage of drivers who will accept the bottom feeder mega company rates.

Big Truck Question for semi owners...

I was talking straight trucks, not vans. You said 20-30% is normal. Is that for t/l or expedite? What rate are we talking? Is that all in, or split, w the fsc being separate? I'm talking Panther, which is $1.65+fsc. They're usually the standard, when it comes to rates to base driver pay off of...

Big Truck Question for semi owners...

This goes back to rate being more important than miles. I need a respectable rate, not 100 hours at $8/hr.

Big Truck Question for semi owners...

That hit the nail on the head, IMO. Wear and tear is on all expedite trucks, w t/ts being no different. I think they try to justify the trailer being a huge cost. I believe they try to get driver's rates closer to t/t company driver's rates. IOW, they don't want to pay for the benefits. They...

Big Truck Question for semi owners...

That's the thing, tho. 3500 mi are hard to come by for a solo, unless you run for .45/ mi. I'm sure there are a few tho. .60/ mi is about right to pay taxes with, but a little more would cover some life and medical ins. The owner has either trailer repair costs, or lease costs, plus ins. So I...
