    SLOW TIMES

Yep... know what you mean. This particular truck was sitting the whole time we were there (2 hours). I can understand if you're running hard. But this guy's truck wasn't just dirty from a month or two of busy. It looked like it went thru a mudstorm.

    Authority

Your best bet is to do a search, here on EO. Use "authority" as your key word. There are many recent threads on the subject.

    Who's Running Good Right Now?

You hear alot about overhiring, especially during the slow months. From what I've seen though, the size of the fleets stay consistant whether it's feast or famine. You forget... companies lose trucks, so they have to put on new ones. All you're seeing are the numbers on the trucks going on. No...

T/A steps up to the plate

There's a truckstop in Italy, which is just south of Dallas on 35E. Ironically, it's called Italy Truckstop. Dusty lot, but nice and quiet when I was there. Store was clean too.

    SLOW TIMES

Tomar mentioned First Class. When Broompilot and I met up in Dearborn, there was a First Class truck sitting there. Man, was that thing FILTHY!!! I've seen a couple others on the road that weren't too hot of shape. But, on the other side, there were a couple clean, newer trucks with them too...

    Criteria For Turning Down Loads

I had to laugh at "You've gotta be kidding me" response. Terry's right tho. You can't expect to get anything good from a response like that. Similar results from the following could be expected... "I could make more working at Burger King" "I could make more being a dispatcher" (bet you'll...

Road to Detroit is paved with bird droppings!

Harrington needs a good qb coach. He never got to learn under a good veteran. But ultimately, you're right. He doesn't have an offensive line, which hurts the running game too.

    Driving for an o/o

"(1) Do these people hand you a 1099 at the end of the year or do they take out taxes??" They almost always do the 1099 thing. If they took out taxes, they'd be an employer. "(2) what might be a ball park figure for earnings for a solo, driving for an o/o?" Current ballpark is 35% for a solo...

    Stern on Sirius

Are Sirius's rates going up? I just checked their site, and it still says $12.95/mo. That's a big reason I want to get lifetime membership. I knew when Stern came on, they'd probably raise rates. Looks like cable.

    Stern on Sirius

If you're a lifetime subscriber to Sirius, then Stern could only help you. He's practically guaranteeing Sirius will be around for a long time to come. I didn't know they canned FOX news for Stern. That was one of the stations I listened to on a regular basis. At least they're keeping Sirius...

Road to Detroit is paved with bird droppings!

Scott, I envy you! Zorn was, and is, my hero. I'd like to see him as a head coach. I'll tell ya... it's been as hard being a Hawks fan as it is a Lions fan. I'd love to see the Lions do well, but that's not happening while Ford owns em. Ford isn't serious about them... not when he picks...

    Criteria For Turning Down Loads

Jim... did you keep dispatch updated as far as the road conditions? If so, tell your contractor relations guy that you want to appeal it. As for the above reasons, I would say all are legit. I would add a couple. 6. A load that has as much, OR MORE, dh than actual paying miles. Or, any load...

Road to Detroit is paved with bird droppings!

WOOOHOOOOOOO!!! 20 years a Hawks fan, and I'm finally tasting the championship punch with my team! Hafta say, it's better than sex!!! :7 To a football fanatic, there are two seasons... football season and waiting for football season. RichM and Broom can talk some football. Now I hafta wait two...

    85 cents for all miles

That's the whole thing, Race... IF he can get a return load. My guess is, he only has a couple hours to look for one. And if he drops in the boonies, he's stuck deadheading. If it were just the load you'd be concidering, you'd make money. If you tacked fsc onto it, you'd be in a better boat...

    Conway

Doing a little math, it seems that vans are still coming away with a decent break with the new fsc formula. .09x13=1.17 Current fuel prices being 2.45, you're paying 1.28 for fuel. You have it even better if you're running a gas van. More like 1.10. I'd like to know what it is for straight...

Parking along exit ramps and rest areas

Then maybe Landstar needs to use their top of the line engineering to find you a vacant parking area. I love how these companies, and government officials, can see to dictate when and where we're allowed to be too tired to continue. Most of the time, if you can find a strip mall or grocery...

    Friday no loads 7:00pm

You're forgetting one important thing. If being to the big game before is all that matters, we'd be seeing Green Bay vs Kansas City for the 40th time. Two years ago was your first time in, so you had to beat teams that have also been there before that. I wish the game were on earlier... the...

    85 cents for all miles

Well, if you're looking at your own authority, count on spending in the range of $10,000/yr for insurance, for starters. That's not a bad gig if you can find something for the return trip. Depending on where the load drops, that may be the reason you got it in the first place. If you're going...

    Friday no loads 7:00pm

Broom... If I were out as long as you usually are, I'd dh too. Especially to see the Hawks kick the Panthers' butts! :7

Parking along exit ramps and rest areas

Indiana will ticket you for using entrance and exit ramps for parking. I believe others will too. States talk all this safety crap, yet they don't want to spend the money it takes to keep us safe.
