    Gas Cost vs Rates

We are guilty of driving way too much on our own dime. If we decide to look at the nearest lake, find a great restaurant, go to Costco for something we could get at Walmart. But where is the fun in just watching the grass grow. As long as we can save enough each month, we go where we want...

    Verizon MIFI Issues anyone?

We have been with Verizon for many years. We got the first MIFI card when they first came out and have upgraded twice now to 4G. We are not having any problems at all. The 4G seems much faster than the 3G most of the time. Once in a while, if we are driving, it will drop and it may take a...

    A vanners toaster?

It's almost that time of the year when you can just put bread on the dash and turn it over after a few minutes. Spray some Pam on the roof and scramble up some eggs and just add cheese. Vanner's invented the tail gate party. They just didn't realize it.

How Many Expediters Retire With Money?

Retirement is a neat concept. It means so many different things to different people. I hope I never retire but die in harness. My wife has different ideas. With the cash in the bank, it is so hard to make a good return on your investments. Do you stick it in the market and roll the dice...

Fellow expediter injured @ TA in Laredo TX.

Note to expediter wannabees who read this site to research the business. People really do get hurt out here as you can see by reading this thread. Safety, health insurance, financial reserves; these are not trivial matters. You never know what can happen. Thats why my wife and I pay $1200 a...

A "Wise Ol Indian Chief" on daylight savings time.

To quote the "Chief": "leave it to the government to think that cutting a foot off the top of a blanket and adding it to the bottom of the blanket, will make the blanket longer!" enough said.

    Van speed

If we drive 67 mph we get about 17.0-17.6 mpg. If we kick it up to 70 mph we get 16.1-16.7mpg. When we drop our speed to 64-65 we can get 18.0 mpg. One trip I dropped my speed to 60 and we got 19.5 mpg. But I have a tough time going that slow. We drive a 2010 Chevy 6.0. Most of the time we...

    FSC shell game

I wonder if the carriers are watching "shipping wars" and saying to them selves "these drivers don't have the brains that God gave a goose" " we can always find some nut job that will run our freight so cheap that we can cut the rates to the basement and these fools will think they are making...

Hey vanman10, been a while. Glad you are back and hope the next sound you hear is $$$ falling from the sky (or dispatch) Just got to Houston and hope to get out soon. One of the solo's said he's been here since Tuesday, so hoping it's just a solo thing. It's a nice time of year to be down...

    Headlight longevity

We have the spare behind the seat. I change the drivers side light about every 6-8 weeks. We bought the van in May and I have changed 6 headlights. It's a pain, but ya do what ya gotta do. Still cheaper than an EGR valve on a Sprinter. At least this is one fix I can do without taking it to...

    FedEx Custom Critical Rebranding Update

Upon further reflection: We carry blank magnetic signs to cover up the current logo's when we visit some friends in a gated community cuz they won't let "commercial vehicles" park over night. So guess we won't get the extra $$$. These must be thousand dollar friends.

Flying J/Pilot gives us the finger

Wish we could wait. We may have to head to Dallas just to get a run. We will hook up next time we are in the area. The Argosy Casino on the Kansas side off of I-635 is nice. I have done well there in the past. Good luck with which ever you choose.

I'll meet you there at 7:00 if we don't get a run! I don't even know where you are but you can make, right, plenty of time for a van man. Crisscross the country in a blink of the eye. Don't need no stinkin CDL.
