Bordentown to JFK - Best Route(s) for Straight Truck

Let me clear up the toll thing. The GW has toll inbound. Going the other way you have two bridges to get to JFK. You have the Goethals from NJ to Staten Island and the Verrazano from Staten Island to Long Island. The Goethals has a toll inbound and the Verrazano has a toll going out, so...

    Telling Dispatchers To Go..........

You call in and talk to me like that, let's see who gets the next load if you and another truck are in the same area. I imagine a lot of other people operate that way as well.

Bordentown to JFK - Best Route(s) for Straight Truck

The best thing to do in NYC is to learn the area and turn off the GPS. I always used 278. You can get backed up seriously on the GW. Better still plan on a couple hours from exit 13 to JFK though. It can get a bit slow sometimes.

    Telling Dispatchers To Go..........

It's a two way street. A lot of dispatchers couldn't hack it behind the wheel...and a lot of drivers couldn't hack it behind a desk. A little mutual respect is in order.

    BEWARE of BROKERS

You want to check Licensing & Insurance Carrier Search and look up the company on there. You will see all MC numbers a company might have and a lot of times the broker authority will be a different MC, sometimes even a different company name.

Sprinter drivers that run for multiple carriers, who do you run for?

You would probably make as much with one of those companies as with more than one of the other companies that allow that sort of arrangement, since they're mostly all bidding against one another on the same freight anyway.

    BEWARE of BROKERS

Most of the carriers who advertise on this site are also brokers in addition to being carriers, and I would imagine that most are on the up and up.

    Landstar info please

We're a Landstar approved carrier and the same thing applies. There are a few agents who like us and we're always getting calls from them to book trucks. Really it's like any large customer with multiple offices. You have to get in good with each office. I guess as an owner operator, running...

    Leaving panther beware

Of course that information gets out if one of their partners happens to be parked next to one of their contractors. Oops.

I remember that load. I think it just went across town.

    Leaving panther beware

As a carrier hauling the occasional load for them it's a little different, but some of the same stuff as well. For one, and I can't put an exact figure to it, but it seems that a lot more loads we get from them "cancel" than from any other freight source. What we've come to do when we book a...

    New member of our staff

Well, the little guy gave up the ghost this morning, sometime between 6:00 and 7:00 am. At 6:00 I heard him meowing and I went over and he was sitting outside the litter box where he had just done his business. I picked him up and held him until he calmed down and then put him back in his bed...

Thompson Emergency bad news - need advise..

That's why we let our contractors take out their own bobtail. That way they can shop around for the best rates and I can just cover them on primary and cargo. Most of our straight truck owners tell me they're still getting ok bobtail rates right now but the primary and cargo has shot up pretty...

That would be nice, but my driving days are behind me now. We're up to 25 trucks now, so I'm pretty much tied to the desk now.

    New member of our staff

I found this guy in our driveway, no mother in sight, and he was very weak and sick, maybe a month old tops, and we've been bottle feeding him because he doesn't seem to know what to do with solid food yet. If he's going to stick around, he's going to have to pull his weight, so I'm...

    Insurance question

We're carrying 2 million liability and 250k cargo on 17 trucks right now. I'll trade insurance bills with you for a month or two.

    Expediting and Insurance Fraud

Ok, nowadays I'm coming from the carrier's perspective, so sometimes I forget about owner op insurance being different. CIS does push the model where the owner ops all have their own insurance though, so that might be part of the logic behind that article. With primary liability and cargo...

Do you use a factoring company

We've only ever used one. I mentioned them in an earlier post in this thread. I can't speak for any others because we've never used any of them. We've been with Coast to Coast Capital for 5 years now.

    Expediting and Insurance Fraud

The main thing there is the radius thing. You have to be sure that if you're going to go all 48 states that you have coverage beyond the 500 mile limit that some policies have.
