    Fuel Gelling

A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of gelling up. When I told the mechanic that I had Howes in my fuel, he smiled and said that Howes makes him money all winter long. According to him, it will work, but only if you use it religiously, year round. That's basically what their guarantee...

    Flying J coupons

Found out over the weekend that not everyone realizes the value of the Flying J coupons, They aren't just food stamps. They can be used in the service centers for both products and labor. If you need additives, pick them up in the service area, not the store, and you can pay for them with...

Thinking of signing on with a company

I drove a day-cab, below 26,000 lb. truck for 5 years. I was inspected frequently by D.O.T. and only came close to being asked for a motel receipt once. I did carry a tent with me, did not have a foam pad (that would be obvious). I had a self-inflating air mattress that rolled up nicely to...

    US Express Suprises Drivers

Here's another example of the changes in trucking as we've known it. "Last week, national news sources reported the driving schools at Wisconsin-based Schneider National are taking a permanent vacation. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the company is shutting the doors on the...

    Front License Plate?

Now, Turtle, he was hard at work rousting trucks out of the auto section of a rest area. Could it have been that he was making work for himself?

    Front License Plate?

I was told by a TN trooper, today, that FMCSA says the plate goes on the front on all commercial vehicles over 4500 gvw. That doesn't make sense. How many times does a trooper cruise along behind long enough to run your plate?

We don't like your kind around here.

I see nobody has mentioned N.Augusta, SC, Garland, TX, (city ordinance), Olive Branch, MS, (no overnights), or Jackson, TN. Across the street from N.Augusta, there's a K-mart that permits parking. To the east of the Garland store there is parking at Denny's and you're outside of the city...

    A real newbie

Cheri, the dog bed can be used as a time out spot. If she ever misbehaves you can train her to go there when she's told. When we lived in a house the bathroom was Dingle's spot. In the truck he goes into the closet for time out.

    Seal on truck

Last year I had a load that delivered 12/26, about 50 miles from my daughter and grandson. Perfect for Christmas. The shipper saw all the wrapped presents that I set back into my truck after they loaded the freight. Too many, too big to go in the sleeper. I'm used to being handed a seal...

    Another Dog related question

I was told that some of the companies that don't permit pets have that rule due to drivers abandoning the truck and pet. You can't take a pet on Greyhound. By the time they recover the truck, pet hair is not the problem. The $500 is likely for the same reason.

The crate's a solution when the customer restricts pets. Most of those places have a guard shack, where you can leave a crated co-driver.

    The Puppy Project

All good points until it got to the "not on a leash". Did you mean when you are on your fenced property or at a 'dog-park'? I'm sure you don't just let your dog run while you watch in an uncontrolled environment. The majority of municipalities have leash laws for dogs and some do for cats...

    The Puppy Project

Cheri, this is a link to the no-kill shelter where I was able to take the stray kitten I'd found. They are open 7 days a week and have truck parking at the Landstar yard right next door. Just a suggestion. Dingle wants me to point out that some people think a Siamese is a dog in cats...
