CAT 3126 Oil Leak - Front Timing Cover

Is it just me, or does $2400 sound pretty steep to anyone else for the work performed? I'm trying to learn diesel repair cost and more and more justify buying that $200 service repair CD for my Cat C-9. Retidepxe

    Portable Generator Securement

I like Greg's idea of the small China made diesel paired w/ an alternator w/ built in voltage reg. and wonder if any one has done this? I currently run a 2000 watt gas gen out of my St trk that I thro on the ground and have to refuel every 5 hrs., with a Harbor freight charger clipped to my...

APU with all the bells, or roof air with portable genset?

"the engine and generator are on a rubber mount inside the housing. After early signs of vibration from road, I did as gregg suggested and put some donut rings on the mounts that hold it on truck frame." I found, in my eternal collection of junk at home, a couple of Honda CB750 rubber foot...

    EnGINE

BigMike, you might check the fuel supply lines from the bottum of the tank/s to the fuel/water seperator if u haven't already. I'm not sure what kind of pick-up sock/filter is in the tank if any but may be running well long enough to stop up and starving for fuel, or lines collapsing??....I...

Ref; Huey pump. My '07 pre-emiss Cat C-9 i believe has a Huey. Met a gent at the Texarkana FL dlr who had just been towed in w/ a load knocking noise and the tech sd possibly the pump on his C-9 and that the trash from the pump also trashes the injectors. My truck, 364k mi.s, has began to...

    Rear End Question

Hey Greg, Lucas to thicken it up a bit. And I'll throw this out there because I really am no expert, but, why not Lucas in Synth? From the Lucas web, "It safely blends with synthetic oils." However it does not differentiate between "oil" and "grease". I have heard it can create cavitation...

    m2 106 shaking

I would agree either tire or wheel problem. We have an '07 M2106. Didn't think it could be done, but we bent an aluminum steer once by dropping off of a nine inch curb a little too fast pulling into the Wally World in Long Beach. Also had a Dunlop steer develop an out of round shape, even...

    Rear End Question

All great advice. I do think changeing to 85w140 would be a good idea or slip some Lucas in it. As far as rr end grease goes, it always seemed a little too thin to me when I checked it hot. I do oil analysis for my motor thru OPS so I'll consider sending one in. Sounds like I better check...

    Rear End Question

Made it another 2500 miles with no probs. Put an electronic steth-a-scope in the pinion bearing area and everything sounds smooth. I did notice the pinion housing area did get almost too hot to hold (almost). Question is now, is this amount of heat normal? Retidepxe

    engine performance

I discovered something on my cat c9 recently. My drain on the fuel/water sep gave way after the tech over tightened it popping the o-ring off leading to no fuel supply to the mtr. I carry a filter wrench and syphon hose so it was an easy fix. Filled the filter up , screwed it back on and...

    Rear End Question

Thanx Piper. I have determined it is a Meritor R-series 21000# single. It is only serviceable by splitting complete front housing from the pumpkin (16 or so bolts). I am not so sure now if it is a bearing rather then just the unever wear on the tire lugs as the noise seems to dissappear on...

    Rear End Question

2007 M2 345,000 miles, switched to mobil synth 75-90w rear end grease about 100,000 miles ago and now I believe a pinion bearing is going. Noticed a whine in the rear, checked grease level, looked good, no noticeable metal on the magnet, but the pinion housing is getting too warm to the touch...

    Question for Owner Operators

Middle Georgia, Macon, GA. Bought an '07 used M2 because it was cheaper then a new one and had all the good stuff in the AA sleeper we wanted including the 750,000 mi. motor. Held it for 3 weeks while we gained financing. When we picked it up, it was slow to start so in went three new...

    Mileage Accuracy

CharlesD you are absolutely right about "every deer trail". Going from first hand experience, if you ever get a run from Seattle to Las Wages, NV, do not be tempted to take the shortest route.......even thou it saves you 176 miles, which incedentally was the route my carrier was paying us on...

    Staying warm this winter?

I use a $20 elec heater (has a 600 watt middle setting) from K-mart plugged into our 1800 watt generator that will run 5-6 hrs on one gal of gas. Also use gen for small window A/C unit (Hyundai) all of last summer plus battery charger to keep the batt's charged while watching TV and running the...
