    newbie looking for advise

Are you concerned about being home at night? Is the $1 per mile paid on your return trip to chicago? How frequently will these Indy runs be available? These things should greatly influence your decision. If you don't care about home time then there are longer better paying loads out...

Detention Time; What do You Get?

I do not have current information on what all carriers do so obviously my next few statements can't be considered industry standard. When my company collects any fees (detention, hand unload, layover, etc.) the driver gets 70% - 80%. There is one major reason my company takes a cut out of these...

Detention Time; What do You Get?

With our company the driver receive $35 an hour which kicks in after two hours. We are required to give the company two hours over the agreed PU time. Often I have drivers who get to the PU a couple hours early and then get confused on when detention really starts. We also have a different...

    Laredo

Haha. It makes me laugh when I call a driver for a really short load and they turn it down before they even find out what I can pay. Thanks for the information. I guess we must just be running into more competition down there. Seems some of you are running well out of there and that is good news.

    Laredo

Our company has some connections down in Laredo, TX and in the past hasn't had an issue bringing freight out of there with our normal rates. Over the last six months or so, we have been under bid quite often and sometimes by alarming amounts. Are you guys still moving out of Laredo...

    T & K Nationwide Trucking

I know some of our drivers also run for them, never heard anything negative about the company or anyone that works for them. I do know they seem to have freight in some of our "dead spots" so it does help our units stay moving.

    Who's hiring for cargo vans?

I didn't volunteer company names because I happen to work for one of them and didn't want to self-promote all over this forum. I tried to send you a PM but it seems either i am not allowed to send them or you are not allowed to receive them. I work for Whirlwind Express LLC, out of...

    Who's hiring for cargo vans?

If you dont mind picking up your own insurance. I know several of the smaller carriers are hiring. Many of them allow you to run for more than one company. So it will increase your opportunity for freight.

    What's the real truth?

As a former driver turned dispatcher I have witnessed both sides of the spectrum. Granted, I work for a smallish carrier but our numbers have been higher every month this year as compared to last year. I think this business, like any other, is full of people who excel and those do not. I...
