    Recruiting Manager

Maybe there is someone out there who can run things without a "babysitter" but when are you going to sleep? Say you take a 600 mile load over night. Are you going to stay up the next day hunting your freight? Or are you going to sleep so you can actually run freight? Also, I think .85 -.88 a...

How do expediting companies find their loads

Most load boards offer access to companies based on a certain criteria. Some of them are less strict than others (see Sylectus vs NLM) but all have some minimum requirement. The reason not just anyone can look at the boards is because companies placing freight on the boards expect good (or...

Looking for a Carrier to drive a Sprinter Van

Do you own a Sprinter or are you looking to drive for a fleet owner? Do you carry your own insurance? Have you ever driven expedite before? many questions to be answered before anyone can direct you to the right place.

Why are expediting companies always hiring?

I think they find it is cheaper to simply broker out freight than it its to cover it with your own fleet. Esp. if your customer base is shrinking. Some companies are always hiring because they want to find good drivers. You can't always tell from a phone conversation whether an owner...

    Expeditor business + second business?

There are a couple small things that might be an issue. If your second business is in the transportation industry it could be tricky. Also, if you have company signs on the van and use it to cold call that may be looked down upon. Like most have said, it is your free time and carriers...

    Rates for CV's

DO THIS, PLEASE! I often call drivers and ask them what they need to run a certain load. Most of the time they can't even begin to give me a number. It is much easier for you to be profitable if you know what you need to turn a good profit.

    Rates for CV's

Well if we are talking strictly bid board freight then CV's aren't getting more than 1.10 per mile unless the broker is desperate.

    Rates for CV's

haha. I guess it depends on what kind of freight/customer you discussing. There are many different ways to get freight. Each of those ways will have different pricing, or should.

    Jumping Load boards

That is what we all want. With the current state of expedite everybody is having a harder time finding freight for their trucks. I look through a number of load boards a day. You aren't going to find consistent freight in Florida for any size vehicle through a load board.

    The Inevitable Begins

+1 Although drivers aren't excited to hear how bad freight has been lately, being honest about the situation and giving them options has to be the better route.

    Factoring

Agreed, sort of. We all make sacrifices in order to jump into this business. Placing your personal life on the line is done just about any time you take on a new career. Esp. one as volatile as expediting can be. However, it wouldn't be putting up something. It would require putting up...

    Factoring

Have you ever applied for such a line of credit? A new carrier doesn't have any assets or much of credit history. So, unless you want to include your personal credit and your personal assets (home, cars, etc.) there is very little chance of securing a business credit line of that sizable amount.

    Factoring

Are you speaking as an O/O that would not work for a carrier that factors? Or as a driver that would not work for a fleet owner that factors? As far as carriers who factor, what alternatives are out there to allow a start-up to break into the business. As turri said, it can take 90 days to...

    the greatest joke ever

As a dispatcher, I never feel like I am doing anyone a favor when paying out dead head. It is simply the fee to get the vehicle/driver where I need it when I need it. Its not a gift and shouldn't be looked at as one. If the driver can't get to my PU then neither of us make any money. I am simply...

Sorry for the delay in my response. I am knew to EO and didnt even realize this conversation box was here. Not a problem. The more informed everyone is out here the better. We have some issues with people going out and not understanding the business. It makes it so companies who treat drivers...
