    DOT Requirements for cargo van

Take it to a truck stop or truck repair shop that does DOT inspections, just have them do a regular DOT inspection on it and make sure you get the sticker and form with it. I get mine done once a year and they are usually only $35.00. It is not required by law as Turtle started. I just do it...

    Cube Van MPG

Your right Jefferson, anyone with a unit like this should be making C rate at minimum and be able to get D rate on some loads with a little ingenuity. A used 15' or 17' cube will be my next vehicle purchase. I see a a whole lot of freight for these size units, you just need to know how to get...

    Cube Van MPG

Good thinking I did not think of the ecm perimeters. The efficiency of the 6.0 is probably at a higher rpm than the max. 1800rpm I think is the sweet spot for the max, at least it is with my lly. Maybe deflectors may be a better option. I know with a diesel peak efficiency is about...

how many trucks down in TX

Texas...where is this place you speak of?? I have heard many stories about the cut throat rates, I myself stay out of there until the snow starts flying. Good vacation spot in the winter as I really don't look for much work from Jan. to April anymore. Ah, the good life:D

    Cube Van MPG

07 only use 2 trans in van chassis and it would either be a 4L60E or a 4L80/85E. I would think in a 3500 chassis you could only get the 80/85E. 80E for the 5.3/6.0 and the 85E with the D-max. They may even put the lil 4.8 in a 3500 with DRW but I doubt it. If it did have a 4.8L it would have...

    Cube Van MPG

If it is a 07 it has OD you just don't see it on the stick. D is OD on a GM product. As Dennis started 3.73 would be the highest gear set you want. How fast do you drive?? I have personally driven a 06 penske 15' box truck on a 3500 gmc chassis, I got 15+ on the 4 tank fulls that I ran...

I need some advice on wheel bearings.

Check NAPA for SKF that is where I got my back-up hub at. I replaced mine at 250k with AC Delco's. I will probably replace them at 480K just for maintenance sake. It is lot cheaper to have it done on home time then to have one burn up on the road while under a load. Use Skype I am board:D

I need some serious help here Ladies and Gentlemen!

If you are running that fast you are with the wrong outfit. No respectable carrier would bid on loads that require you to run that fast to make pick/drop on time. You are burning way to much fuel and burning your van up in the process. I only roll 57-58mph and make my picks/drops early all...

    Question about winter driving

Most of the freight on the Alliance comes from freight forwarders, brokers and 3 PL's and they use 45-50mph for the most part. Most of my bids on this board are for alternate pick and drop times. I book everything at 43-45mph and ALWAYS have the drop time adjusted out for delays at the...

Moving up the food chain (straight truck)

Depends on how much your getting, if you are just picking up 2 skids and they are going to tail gate them then I would say no. For safety sake I would say yes to most of the time that it is more than 2 skids. I have no experience in a 6 wheeler but I have loaded heavy rolls of paper in a...

Moving up the food chain (straight truck)

As others have said G.O.A.L. until YOU feel comfortable with backing. Also continue to do it so after you get good so you don't have a whoopsy. Yes I use to just coast in to the dock (clutch in, foot on brake) at like 2-3 mph and let the rubbers do the work. Sometimes you gotta give it a...

Moving up the food chain (straight truck)

What happens if you are offered a load dropping under the building in the parking garage, like the Union Station post office and a few others in the Wash. D.C. / NYC. area?? Door height is 12'6 maximum, some 12'4. If its on the load offer do ya just turn it down because you don't know your...

    No Mo Points...Pilot

I said when there are trucks waiting, they have to fuel on the truck islands they do not have a choice. If you have a choice and the truck islands are backed up (as you see at most pilots) why go back there and get in line?? they are running on the 14 hour clock and thou you may only take 10...

Well looks since Pilot/Flying J's update on Sunday, us van peeps will not get anymore points if you use the pumps out front. What Carrier Really Cares about it O/O?

I agree 99% I am a small carrier so I have to give myself the nod not Landstar, although as I have told a few BCO's Landstar is the only company I would lease to if it came down to it.

    Inverter / watts question

Thanks Turtle I called pro charge and was not to thrilled about the way the charge on the run works. I did how ever look at one of there standard industrial chargers to use when I am hooked to shore power or I can us my gen to run it if I set long enough to require a recharge. I will be...

    Inverter / watts question

Hey Turtle what model number are those Trojans?? I take it they are the 6 volts. Looks like your running 2 different banks in series then hooking the 2 banks together in parallel? totaling 12 volts. What is your total reserve cap for this set up? My 2 discovers have had enough and it is now...
