    Mobil 1 FYI

I spoke with a very knowlegable and respected mechanic here in the Dayton area. He does an Question and Answer program on the radio and he owns Vandalia Auto Clinic. I asked him about using Mobil 1 in a new van I am purchasing. He said to run Non-Synthetic for the first 10,000 miles and then...

    Thank you notes or cards

Great idea! I prefer to send a "Thank-you" card or a short note. When I do so, it indicates that I took some extra time to accomplish the task and I believe the recipient appreciates the personal touch even more. Historically speaking, the spoken word passes away fairly soon. Conversely, we...

    Salute, honor and remember

One thing I have learned in my Christian walk is that it never matters what someone else does; it only matters what I do. Pray about it and see which direction the Lord leads you. Most of the time when folks have come to me for counsel, I find that the bitterness most often results from a lack...

Where will you spend Independence Day?

Got up this morning, made coffee (Fresh Beans, yummy) and had some quiet time with my wife. Drove over to Fairborn about 9am to march in their parade. Went to Applebee's for lunch (All you can eat Soup n' Salad). Excellent Tomato Basil Soup and Shrimp n' Spinach Salad. Bonded with the parrot...

    Salute, honor and remember

Ft Wayne, Do not let them run you off. We all have different views. I have met Terry and Leo personally. Both are decent folks. Greg has been a huge help to me when it comes to his mechanical knowledge. I appreciate all of their help, but I don’t expect them to agree with me on that which...

    tax person

O/O sold his cargo van in 2006. He gets back into the business in 2007. In the process of purchasing a new van he trades in a personal vehicle, but takes a loss on the trade vehicle. Can the loss on the trade vehicle be a deduction in 2007?

What companys pay the most per mile, and include g

RE: What companys pay the most per mile, and inclu I spoke with a representative of Elite Way Express. Yes, they do pay a decent rate, but they return back to their base area of operations without freight. Basically, they are a one-way operation. They have a fair amount of Canada freight too...

    tax person

I have a friend who is a cargo van driver and he only settles one time per year. He has never sent an "estimated tax payment". That leads me to believe that the estimated payment is optional. Yes? No?

    Air Cards

I looked at the external modem Novatel Wireless (Ovation U720) that plugs into a computer's USB port and I see exactly what Leo is talking about. Although I have Verizon as a cell phone provider, based upon the positive comments listed here, I am inclined to go with Sprint for my mobile...

    TRI-STATE

Express-1 and Panther seem to be offering decent solo freight. You may want to talk with them.

    Air Cards

Currently, the Verizon wireless card is FREE. I like free. If I upgrade my computer in a couple of years, and it requires a different card, the free card from Verizon will not be a financial loss. Verizon has the largest footprint and that is crucial for an expediter.

Chevy Express 3500 - Locking Differential

I got decent service out of the Duramax. Sold it with 72,000 miles. Second owner still running it and I haven't heard of any problems. Oddly enough, I am considering a 6.0L gasser this time around. My 2008 is scheduled to be built the last week of July. Keep me updated on your Duramax.

Chevy Express 3500 - Locking Differential

60 MPH, Didn't you have a Chevy gasser when we first talked? I thought you had told me that you ran Amsoil after an engine rebuild in that van and it "ticked" so loud you had them drain it out and replace it with non-synthetic.

    Question About Vans

I believe that the concern on the part of those carriers you listed would be more directed toward the age of the van and not solely the type of van. FedEx, Tri State and Panther do take cargo vans. Nations Express does lean more heavily toward Sprinters, but they have some cargo vans in their...

    Qualcomm vs. Handheld GPS

It seems as though the traditional Qualcomm antenna, which requires an installation bracket, cabling, and keypad, not to mention the expense of mounting one and having to poke 5 holes in your roof; would move more companies to use a handheld GPS with cellular communications. The expense of the...

    All-Types Expediting

Thanks Davekc, I always seem to forget about the "SEARCH" function on the EO Forum. Last year I experience some difficulties in narrowing my search parameters and I began frustrated with the process. I have learned a lttle more since that time. I was overcome by a moment of laziness. I'll try...

What does anyone know about these folks? I have seen a few of their cargo vans on the road, but I have never spoken with a driver. If you have any privacy concerns, please send me an Instant Message.

What brand of synthetic fluid are you using the your expediter? I was not aware there is a "limited slip additive". Who makes the additive?
