Visteon to close Connersville, IN plant Sept 1

I can only speak for myself, but in 2006 I hauled more freight to Honda (Marysville,OH & Lincoln, AL),Toyota (Georgetown, KY and Princeton, IN),Nissan (Smyrna,TN) and Subaru (Lafayette, IN) than I did for the Big 3. I would almost rather go to a "foreign" plant due to the difference in...

Visteon to close Connersville, IN plant Sept 1

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200770201044 I really hate to hear this. The Connersville and Bedford plants are the only Visteon plants I would want to go into. They were always very pleasant and treated drivers like human beings unlike the folks up at Sterling Heights.

    Runnin in a Sprinter

The first year for the Sprinter cutaway was 2004. It had a gvwr of 9990#. In 2005 the gvwr went up to 10,200 and remains current. Not sure what the new body style 2007's will be but it will most likely be even higher since they are increasing for even the cargo van models. I run a 2002 GMC...

    When will buisness pick up?

You are a "D" unit. "B" units are cargo vans.

    chevy Kodiak c 4500

My former truck was a 97 Ram 3500 with a 12' box. It was originally 43" from ground to floor but I had it raised 5" so it was 48" from ground to floor. It worked great at 95% of the docks I went to. Some of the older docks with the real short manual dock plates were a bit to high but I also...

    Fuel tax for vans

Get the RV (Real Value) card. This is set-up for the RVers but will work in the truck lanes. Not only do you get cash price but you also get a penny off per gallon of diesel. You can also get bigger discounts on fuel if you spend over $51 a month in purchases other than fuel at FJ if you make...

    Scales???

I think Nebraska also has the 6000 GVWR scaling requirement similar to Iowa. I have only been there once and can't remember for sure.

    Tipping the mechanic

I actually did slip a $5 to the guy at the local quick lube just before Christmas. He made an extra effort and seemed to actually care about his job instead of just going through the motions.

    Fuel tax for vans

Yeah that's what I meant to say......it's cheaper on the truck side with a DOT # than the auto/rv islands in Indiana. My tongue didn't get twisted.....my fingers did. : )

    Fuel tax for vans

Wrong. Indiana truckstops sell diesel fuel sales tax-exempt at the truck islands. That is why they always ask for a DOT or MCC #. If you go to the auto or RV side the diesel fuel is 9 or 10 cents/gal cheaper. On the other hand if you use the auto/RV side you don't get charged extra for using...

WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON SKID SIZE?

Besides that the original post never said anything about a Sprinter. He said he had an extended cargo van.

WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON SKID SIZE?

I wrote "HEARD" because I had read that fact in another post somewhere. Since I wasn't the one who asked the original question I wasn't going to take the time to research where I had "heard" that info. Just letting the guy know that it was a possibility instead of doing like some and making...

    Pickup with a trailer

Most docks are 48"-52" from the ground.

WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON SKID SIZE?

Yes. The Sprinter 3500 has DRW and has a GVWR of 9990#. I heard you have to alter the wheel wells some to accomodate a 48" wide skid.

    16' box truck, door opening/deck height? comfort/c

RE: 16' box truck, door opening/deck height? comfo The Penske 16' GMC box vans are labeled as 10,000 GVWR. GM is the only mfg I am aware of that makes a DRW chassis with a GVWR less than 10,001. I am currently operating one of these trucks and have been running the wheels off of it. However...

    Straight Truck B-unit?

Not only the mileage but I am sure they had to log and pay the high dollar insurance for surely being over 10,000 GVWR. Must have been professional tourists?

    what size?

I bought a former Penske 15' 2002 GMC Savana cube with the 10,000 GVWR. I put it in service in late September and have been running the wheels off of it. It is a 350 gas and I have been averaging 11.5 mpg. It's 92" wide so I can get a total of 6 45w X 48l skids and still have room for an air...

    26k truck

I would say that if you had a loaded weight of 30K on a 26K GVWR truck that they would happily write you a ticket and put you out of service for being about 4K overweight.

    On my own

That doesn't necessarily mean anything. The s/t driver may have either picked up at a dock-high only facility or delivering to one. Or may have just been trying to get your goat!!!
