    Dumb things dispatchers have said

I got a computerized load opportunity that wasn't paying good, kinda short and hazmat. Knowing that I was the only van sitting in Atlanta area I immediately turned it down. Five minutes later a dispatcher calls me and asks me why I turned down the load. As nicely as I could be I started...

New DVA Point system change-get ready to get screwed

piper, I understand what you are saying, and I agree. But what do you say when you are the only one with a <75 in the area, you get a load that picks up tomorrow morning, you accept it and then you get the dreadful message "Sorry, load number xxxxx has been dispatched to another vehicle". This...

New DVA Point system change-get ready to get screwed

Yep, I talked to a few drivers about it. 2 of them in 2 different occasions had a <75, but they did not get the loads because there was someone closer to the pick up. So, I wonder, who in their right mind would loose a day doing a <75, if you don't get the advantage of a <75. Man, how much...

    Prove It Sprinter Owners!

Greg, last time I weigh my sprinter the curb weight was 5350 lbs (I have the 140" wheel base, low roof, and no sleeper of any kind in there, just me, a few clothes and a full tank of fuel). This gives me 3200 lbs for freight with a GVWR of 8550 lbs. However, I have never put more than 2500 lbs...

    Prove It Sprinter Owners!

I don't know sky, in my case my sprinter saved me money in the long run because of the fuel mileage I get. I am not going through the calculations again, but you can find them here somewhere if you search, but if I remember correctly, in 300k miles, my sprinter saved me 15k in fuel alone, and no...

    Passenger Insurance

If I remember good from the orientation, I think it is $100 a year, but I wasn't interested too much and I might have misunderstood. But, be careful if you want to bring your girlfriend with you and you don't want your wife at home to know about it. :D They will send the paperwork home and your...

What's with Fed Ex Cust. Crit?

It all depends what kind of vehicle you want to put on. When I wanted to start into this business I called FedEx first. They weren't putting any vans on, so no response from them. I agree, it would be nice to get a call back with the 'sorry, we don't put vans on right now'. So, I called Panther...

Some pics of Black Death. Normal head.

    Diesel Supplements

Black death is a problem specific to Sprinters sold here, and since it doesn't happen in Europe where diesel has higher cetane number, it is suposedly caused by our fuel. The seal between the injector and the head starts leaking and those combustion gases that leak out turn into a black goo on...

    Diesel Supplements

Eb, That is very strange, I haven't heard of something like this before. If the light comes back, can you check the code and see what the problem is? I am very curious.

    Diesel Supplements

Thanks for posting this. So, it looks like the best additive for lubricity is 2% BioDiesel. And then some Opti-Lube in the winter.

    Diesel Supplements

I've never used any fuel additives in any of my vehicles. Never had a fuel related problem either. I took my sprinter down to -5 F and never had a gelling issue. However, if I were to go lower than that I would think about adding some.

The Writing on the Wall, of the trailer, that is

Nick, About 3 weeks ago I moved to an E unit. I miss my Sprinter. Will get back in it sooner or later. I feel like my hands are tied in this big thing. I just like to go check out Best Buys and the like while waiting for a load. Now I am pretty much stuck in truck stops and an occasional...

The Writing on the Wall, of the trailer, that is

No need for any of these. The guy just told me to look out for these things, especially at these government places. And I erased it right there, before I left.

The Writing on the Wall, of the trailer, that is

Folks, Let me tell you an experience that happened recently. I delivered at a government facility recently and I had to unload some stuff with the pallet jack. I was using one pallet jack and the customer another one and we were just about to get done and he comes to me and asks me if I am...

    Working for 2 companies

In a way you are correct, but when you sign on with one of the big companies there is a part in the contract that says something like 'this contract can be terminated for any or no reason by either party....' So yes, you can do whatever you want, but the company when they figure it out can...

Questions to ask before accepting load

Steve, Great advice. Of course us the newer people don't quite know where to layover after we deliver and to account for that. We don't know yet where the best express center is close to the delivery place. And to think about all of these in 10 min. But slowly we learn all these things.

Be careful what you wish. Just wait a little bit more time for the real snow to come up north and then you will get out of Texas and be only up north in the snow. Then you would wish to be back in Texas :D

    van tire lifespan

My Sprinter came with Michelin LTX A/S. The first set lasted 155k or 165k, don't have the numbers in front of me. I run 80 psi all the time and rotate them religiously at 10-12k. I replaced the first set with 2 Michelin LTX A/S and two Korean made Aurora tires at less than half the price of a...
