    finding your own loads

In regards to private citizens hauling things in their pickup for gas money....I was advised that a few southern states are setting up stings using Uship to catch illegal haulers without DOT or MCC authority. Just something to consider.

    Engine Size for Cube Van?

If you go with a GM van cutaway chassis with DRW you are only going to have two engine choices. The 6.0L gas and the 6.6L Duramax diesel. Both are good motors. Rev Dave operates this 08 Chevy cube Cargo Vans : 2008 AEROCELL with the 6.0 gas and is getting 15-16 mpg I believe. If you don't...

Does anyone make an aerodynamic cube van besides aerocell or HCV?

Supreme makes one with the "Top Hat" option. They extend the roof of the van in an aerodynamic fashion so that it's the same height as the roof of the truck body. This gives you greater fuel economy due to the aerodynamics plus more head room in the cab allowing for a taller pass thru door if...

    Ford/GM/gas/diesel

Gas is great for vans however the original question pertained to a 5500 series chassis.

    I Have a question.

Some states have Class C CDL's. In Indiana I think they just call it a Chauffeur's license.

    I Have a question.

You do realize the 10,000 lb magic number is the gross vehicle weight RATING for the vehicle you are using. If your truck is rated 10,001# or higher and you are only hauling an envelope you better have DOT #'s and a DOT medical card. From the sound of your post it sounds like you believe you...

I have actually hauled more freight to Japanese-owned auto plants than I have for the Big 3. These are my most frequent flyers: Honda-Marysville, OH, Honda-Lincoln, AL, Toyota-Princeton, IN, Toyota- Buffalo, WV, Subaru/Toyota-Lafayette, IN, and Nissan-Smyrna,TN. Quite frankly I would rather...

Good point. Thanks for the "insider" information!!!

    New Ford Diesels

If it was a 2008 E-Series van it was a 6.0L. If it was a 2008 F-Series truck it was a 6.4L. The 6.4L won't fit in an E-Series so they are using their left over 6.0's in the vans. So I would stick with a gasser.

Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever seen a toll plaza worker that "seemed happy" regardless if they were a guvamet employee or contracted out laborer.
